That’s not a heatwave.

1976 was a heatwave. For those of you old enough to remember?

How hot was the summer of 1976?

The peak that year was 35.9C. That has been beaten by the current temperatures, with 40.3C recorded so far.

The heatwave of 1976 started in June and lasted for two months. There was a lack of rainfall and a significant drought, with the government enforcing water rationing.

We all remember 2022 and that record breaking heatwave that hit the UK

A new all-time temperature record of 40.3°C was set on 19 July during an unprecedented heatwave, exceeding the previous record by a wide margin and smashing records for many long-running stations.

19th of July, 2022.

The UK’s new record-high temperature of 40.3°C at Coningsby, Lincolnshire, has been confirmed by the Met Office, following a rigorous process of analysis and quality control.

Of course we had it tough! Kids today, they don't know they're born.
Joking aside though, the drought was believed to have resulted in a 20% increase in excess deaths that year. If I recall, the Labour government of the day were so concerned that Dennis Howell was appointed Minister for Drought after around two months of relentless heat. Within days, a huge thunderstorm hit the country and we were deluged with rain prompting the public to rename him Minister for Floods. You just can't win with some people!

Too hot for me today, I don’t like this heat. I wouldn’t mind, 30 years ago, I could sit in it all day.

I’m not joking, if someone came and squashed my head in a vice now, Casino style, I’d be exceptionally happy.

How people live like this abroad is beyond me. I long for the day I’m wrapped up, scraping the ice off my car and looking on in glee as my home monitor costs me hundred of pounds in gas.

This. Is. Vile.

I've been working in it all day, done about 40% of what I can normally do.
The main issue is how many hours the sun's out for we don't get a break, low 20s is the sweet spot dropping to 10c at night!
