Heathrow shut

It won't happen again. I doubt is Russia/Mossad/John Mcdonall getting back at Starmer etc. Most likely a fault that will be fixed by end of today.

Heathrow is far too important to the capitalist eco system of this country. They'll have 5 back up generators paid for by us to stop it happening again.

Everything is a conspiracy these days mate, depending on how warped you see the world.

I had to look on X just to see what wild theories were banding about. Belly laughed at most of them.

Loads of backup sources, all "operated as expected". What's the point in just having a partial back up if you still need to shut down completely?

"A Heathrow source also told the BBC that they have "multiple sources" of energy at the airport – with diesel generators and "uninterruptable power supplies" in place.

They added when the power outage happened the back up systems "all operated as expected"
The systems, however, are not enough to run the whole airport – hence the decision to close it down"

Understandable in the current climate.

Genuine fault of not, critical national infrastructure (CNI) has always been a target of foreign adversaries. Future wars will be waged not on the battlefield, but in the social and cyber domains. The best way to bring a country to its knees is to create division and disruption amongst the general population, and what better way than disrupting or disabling the power grid? Imagine life without electricity for a prolonged period? Most people in the Western world couldn't do an hour without going stir crazy.

Authorities seem to have been quick to jump to a 'technical fault' conclusion, but it could easily have been a cyber-attack. You only have to disable automated monitoring equipment remotely and then induce a fault condition. There are perhaps a few state actors that are capable of that level of subterfuge, and it wouldn't be the first time Russia had done it.

And imagine the panic amongst the population if the government came out and said, 'a foreign adversary hacked our power grid and shut down a major international transport hub'? The stock markets would take a nose-dive.

If anything, this has highlighted a major weakness in our CNI.
