I remember when I was younger and found a ton of these quotes from Herakleitos. Turns out that almost all of them are invented, misquoted or misattributed unfortunately.

not unlike the rubaiyat of omar khayyam...
pretty much everyone agrees that the 101 quatrains translated by fitzgerald are genuine,
but there are loads more that might or might not be originals.
the victorians had a proclivity for invention so we'll never know.

which leaves the question -
if they give people pleasure does it matter either way?
for scholars, maybe.
for us lot, probably not.
