Hicks says we must stop spending

its just hicks trying to justify holding on to the cash at the same time please platini by saying we are going to control our debt, any liverpool fans with anything about them wont be had over, its in there for all to see, like the comment, rafa will have his eye on part of it, so in january rafa is going to get about £10m if he is lucky, if i were a liverpool fan i would be fuming, whilst you have an acadamy to bring kids through you dont win major trphies with a team full of them, you need to spend big and have the best players with the odd home grown kid thrown in, yes hughes did say we wont be spending big all the time, but i for one am 100 per cent sure we will see a couple of big names in january, so leave hicks to drop himself in it with the scousers, they are fans like us and will see through it

Liverpool are like an ASDA being run like a corner shop, they are in danger of being left behind as football is about wealth now. I think when Stevie G and Carragher pass that will signal the end of an era of producing decent homegrown players at Anfield, they will then look to buy but will be so far behind they will find it difficult to compete.

They should have had a bigger stadium 10-15 years ago but failed to get one as a result Arsenal, Utd and now teams like City, Chelsea, Spurs, Villa can all compete with them off the pitch and for a club of Liverpool's stature that should never have been allowed to happen, it boils down to bad management.

It is Hughes business to comment though not Hicks. Can you imagine Hughes saying that they need to spend a lot more if they want to win the league. Do you think they would say fair enough, no they would say, and rightly so, that it isnt hughes business

Well it's not the same thing. A fair comparison would be Khaldoon commenting that they need to spend more to win the league. I agree he's unlikely to do this, but I would imagine that Hicks is just responding to a direct question from a journalist about City.

He's been asked about our spending and he says it's unlikely to continue forever. Which is true, so why do we get so offended?

Because as a professional person he'd would of been better to say "city have nothing to do with me, Im' liverpool" and left it at that. Besides City will keep spending until we are at the top and way above our competitors, if mark hughess want to spend big in Jan then he will.

No one angry it's just laughable to be honest.

Do none of these idiots realise that Sheik Mansour has already earned the amount he spent on the club and n new players back in interest on the rest of his fortune?

Dear Mr Hicks

Many thanks for your concern about how we intend to run Manchester City. However we have a reasoanble team of business savvy people running the club and if we need outside advice we will be sure to come ask you. I'm presently busy running a multi billion investment portfolio and business interests across the globe, but as soon as I get time to meet up over a coffee and discuss how to run things better I'll give you call.

I really appreciate your interest and advice on running one of these "soccer" investments. Its great to know I can rely on you and Malcolm G for sound advice. It really is like one big boys club and I didnt expect this kind of warm welcome and camaraderie amongst the Chairmen.

Final point, can you offer any advice on where you bulk purchase your pies from. I'm not convinced we have the best deal at City...5p for a wholesale chicken balti seems a little steep?

Yours the Sheikh

Thank you for your interest Mr Hicks, i am pleased to hear your running your club in the correct way. Have you accounted for loss of revenue when you dont make the top 4, toddle off and work those sums out or simple give us Torres for £30 million.

Ah yes, he's getting smug now he's renegotiated the crippling debt and is getting £20m a year for sponsorship. Whoopy-doo.

I like this quote though.

"Hopefully they will make the improvements they need to make and then run it more like a business. The smart clubs operate for the long term and you must look at who have had success for many years."

So (1) ADUG apparently are not running MCFC like a business. News to me.

And (2) To be a 'smart club', you must be able to base future business strategy ONLY on what has gone before. Sounds anti-competitive to me.

Anyway, with a former Koppite wife, it's more than my life's worth to criticise LFC. All the in-laws think that G & H are lying crooks and would love to have DIC in. So would I, just to see the look on Rag faces, as they have little chacne of shaking off their Yank crooks, for now at least.

He is right (although it's none of his business). At some point we are going to have to become self-sufficient and that will mean relying on CL income as there is no way we could cover our wage bill otherwise.

But his comment about their debt is laughable and reminiscent of Mackintosh's comment about ours being "manageable". The only way we could manage it was by not buying players. Same applies to them which is why they're panicking.
