I’m on my Soap box here, I went to hospital for a procedure a few months ago, it was cancelled as my Blood Pressure was 235/111, the Doctor was very concerned and I was referred back to my GP to resolve.

After several changes to medication I’m now at normal levels, I’ve attached my latest reading here as proof.

My main reason for posting though is this, high BP is the silent killer, so many people die suddenly because they don’t know they have it. Just buy a home monitor for around £20 and check once a week. Out of all the members on here there will be significant numbers who could be in danger but high BP doesn’t present any symptoms. Please, please don’t ignore, especially if you’re over 50 and have a degree of stress in your life.

My doctor said I was nailed on for a heart attack or stroke, I’m 65 btw and thankful for medical attention that may give me extra years.

Well said. I have been taking BP tablets for 20 years. My job required an annual medical and if the lower figure went above 90 consistently, then the medical would not be renewed. I actually take mine daily in the evening and have alerted my GP to the fact that it has crept up over the last few months and I have a review this coming week. If 120/62 is consistent for you, then that's really good. What tablets and dose have they got you on?

Well done on getting the bp down pal. I had high no for around 15 years. Tried every combination of meds to no avail. Genetic with me. That initial reading you had is definitely crazy high.

It was mate, the Doctor at hospital was contemplating keeping me in as he was so concerned, like you high BP runs in the family but my mum lived until 83 and my Dad (heart attack at 54) until 89.

I take blood pressure medication as it runs in the family and both my mum and dad died from heart attacks. I didn’t know mine was high until I went for a routine over 50’s men’s health check thing. With the meds it’s normal again. I also take a statin due to the genetic risks although at 5.3 it wasn’t overly high. It is down to 3.2 now.

Been on daily medication since I was 30 and I’m now 53.

As the OP says, a silent killer and it’s imperative you get checked regularly and if you’re high and the doctor says it needs medication then listen and take it, it will probably save your life.

Good advice but good lord I've never seen figures as high as that, in fact I've never seen anything within 50 of the 235 figure. I think you're a lucky man to be here to post all
