High Blood Pressure

I don't know if its been mentioned, but I think most doctors surgeries have blood pressure monitors in the waiting areas you can use free of charge. You don't need to book or anything, just go in and use them. They print out and reading on a little bus type ticket.

Maybe I should move. I now have chronic osteo arthritis in my knee and hip. I really do not get any sense that my surgery has any plan for me . I had to push for cortisone shots . They kindly responded to my last request for an appointment to see what treatment I need by saying I'd get a phone call on 12th June. Urmston GP Practice....
I’d definitely explore alternatives.

Maybe they are enjoying their bonuses.

I take Losartan daily, I was on Ramipril for 20 years but it gave me a dry cough and I never felt great on it… Losartan is great for me, no cough and BP down to 135/75.. my worst reading was 180/110 Doctor nearly shat himself… I’m very lucky it was spotted when I was so young … I’m 60 this month and still alive and kicking … Despite City’s best efforts :-)

I'm on Amlopidine (5mg) and Perindopril (4mg). My recent one week monitor gave an average of 138/88. I had a review this morning and my Dr has increased the Amlopidine to 10mg in an attempt to reduce to below 135/85.

Hope that goes well for you mate, it’s a worry but we are fortunate in a way as there are millions out there with our condition that don’t know it and therefore far more at risk than we are .. 135/85 is pretty good to be fair

Just been for my medication review with the nurse at my GP practice.
Since my last review my weight has gone down from 115kg to 93kg, my blood pressure from "borderline high" to 130/90 and my pulse is 43.
The nurse asked what on earth I'd been up to, and I mentioned that I'd retired and taken up swimming and running, without changing my diet much, but cutting down on booze.
She called me a "model patient". I'll take that!
Hopefully my Ramipril prescription will get reduced now as I'm currently on 3.75mg per day.

Well done , never easy to go on a health kick

Having been on amLodopine for years it seems I have started reacting badly to my most recent pack.
I get unbearable heartburn and acid reflux whenever I ate which is only alleviated by copious amounts of baking soda in water, peptobismol, or gaviscon.
This is a noted side effect of amlodopine, as well as being symptomatic of other things of course.
Knocked off the amlodopine and the heart burn/reflux have stopped.
Hope I can get to see the GP asap.

Have you tried the 24 heartburn pills, like Nexium?

The stuff you mentioned does nothing for me. I have a pill a day and I could eat fire and it not bother me, other than of course putting me in a coffin.

I recently went for a cataract op to my local hospital. My problem was that I apparently suffer with white coat syndrome and had a BP well above my normal 140 over 70.
Despite checking regularly it was about an hour and a half before they allowed my operation to proceed.
God knows what my BP is watching City.

Years ago I was told that the lower figure ie when heart relaxed should be below 90.

I've been on BP meads for 12mths and suffered with bad guts, can't remember all the names but Losartan proved to be the culprit, was better within days of sacking it off (with gp agreement)
Currently on amlodopine 10mgs, which I've had from the start, BP around 150/85, much better than it was last year @ 200+/120.
Got diagnosed with AF this week, also an aortic aneurysm, so I'm now on beta blockers as well. Seems I've finally reached the point of having to buy one of those pill dispensers, on 9 tablets a day now.
I'm quite content with the likelihood of how my demise will come about, quick and easy exit. Having had a brain hemorrhage in 2010 I'm happy to have had the last 15yrs bonus, seeing City win everything has been magical.

Just to add, I'm not planning on dying just yet, got things to do first, like reaching 66 next Feb and receiving some state pension for a while, would be gutted to miss out after paying in all these years. Maybe another CL final, in Budapest, here's hoping.

Get that aneurysm fixed mate, my mil died with hers, waiting for the fucking NHS to operate on it for 2 months....it just burst and she dropped dead.

If she'd gone private she could still be alive.

They measured it, apparently the only time they will act is if it's over 5cm or mm I can't remember, anyway mines 4.5, so they said they'll look again next year.
Not much more I can do.

Nexium is the brand name of the PPI Esomeprazole.
I have a long term prescription for the similar lansoprazole but am reluctant to keep taking it because of the increasing concerns of PPI long term health risks, notably dementia links.

I best take a look into that then.

Sometimes the individual NHS regions limit when they will do precautionary surgery or even medication.
Years ago a psa of 7 was needed for example prostate cancer concern in certain regions. This effectively killed some people.
I honestly believe they sacrificed lives to conserve beds.
Perhaps things are different these days.

Good advice but good lord I've never seen figures as high as that, in fact I've never seen anything within 50 of the 235 figure. I think you're a lucky man to be here to post all
Unless it was a dodgy sphygmanometer

Exactly the same thing has happened to me.Still waiting for cataract treatment.
