She asked " what's a kitchen " - just one of the reasons why she's my ex..

hahhahahahaahaha

stupid woman

Making you laugh means more to me than some unwarranted (imo) worries of the mother of my son - does that make me a bad person? Or did marrying a scouser in the first place already achieve that? :-)

It's frankly embarrassing considering the pioneers such as Brunel who built our infrastructures before.
Why are we calling it High Speed. By the time it has been completed it will be so far behind the times. We know full well that it will be late. we don't have the people to lead this venture.
Our whole country is a mess in respects to infrastructure. We have water shortages despite plenty of rainfall. We haven't built a proper modern reservoir or drainage system. Our power supplies are outdated and we are struggling to modernise there. We were far better at recycling and waste disposal in the 40s than we are now.
IT's sad that people who make these decisions are supposedly our educated citizens.

Manchester should have an underground. An international hub should be built in the middle of the UK ( as best we can) with Maglev links to all major cities. Scotland can build new cities. The wealth should be spread. With that the population would spread.
We are too London Centric when with our size compared to that of Brazil, India etc we could compete as a giant interconnected City.

Imagine if instead of spending 20 years and however many billions it will cost on a railway, we put that time and money towards this; http://tinyurl.com/a29qqbn

The North West has always been served by excellent motorways , railways , canals and even the ship canal . Mainly paid for by the government of the time .
Why would a modern government not want to include the North West ?
It would be political suicide not to build it.
If every major building project , was built in the South East we would go mad up here.
So what . . . a rare worm might die . . get it built .

Why do we need that then?

We need it building now not in several years time. Another hair brained idea that the incoming labour government will need to sort out.
It was first proposed by the last labour government.

A tunnel from the airport all the way to the Ardwick end of Longsight is a mind-boggling construction project. It means digging below some of the most densely populated areas in Britain. If this happens it is a monumental scheme which will create huge amounts of jobs. But also potentially the worst residential and traffic disruption ever seen in this country. Interesting to see if it ever actually happens. I have my doubts.

A tunnel, where is this come from mate? I've not seen anything a out a huge tunnel?

The western leg of the network would serve proposed stations at Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly.

Further connections onto the existing network will enable passengers in many more regions across Britain to benefit from HS2.

Western route summary

The line would connect with the London-West Midlands leg near Lichfield in the West Midlands, before heading north-west past Stafford and on towards Crewe. A connection with the West Coast Main Line would be provided just south of Crewe, with the main line continuing in tunnel under the town heading north.

It would cross over the M6 and then the M56 before heading past Warrington to a further connection with the West Coast Main Line south of Wigan. The Manchester stations would be served by a spur off the main line running roughly parallel with the M56 towards Manchester Airport.

The airport station would be located between Junctions 5 and 6 of the M56 as the line approaches the main built-up area of Manchester.

Heading north from here the line would enter a seven-and-a-half-mile tunnel, surfacing a short distance from the new station alongside the existing station at Manchester Piccadilly. The total route length would be around 95 miles.

Stations

Manchester (Piccadilly)

A new station would be built alongside the existing station at Manchester Piccadilly in the heart of the city. This would allow easy connections with regional rail services to places such as Salford, Stockport and Bolton. There would also be excellent easy access to the extensive Manchester public transport network, such as Metrolink services to Bury, Altrincham, Eccles and Salford Quays including MediaCityUK. Local and regional buses would be on the doorstep and there would be easy pedestrian access to the city.

Manchester Airport

A new interchange station would provide direct links to Manchester Airport. This station would also give the wider Cheshire area easy access to the high speed rail network, both by public transport and by car.
