Highly critical article about Citys' owners

fuck em all,
the sheik has been brilliant with something ive loved for 50 years ,he breathed life into something I've loved for 50 years ,he gave me something I could only dream about ,now he's turning my club into a fucking monster, so fuck em ,I don't give a flying fuck what all these people say because I know that if the sheik had chosen their club they would be fucking loving it as well,so fuck em fuck em all.

Actually I don’t think it is. After we won the FA Cup there was a thread about ownership of City (can’t remember why). One of the posters quoted an interview with Khaldoon in which the point was made that the process was more the other way round - ie that Sheikh Mansour had (I paraphrase) to talk the AD ruling family into agreeing to him buying a City, because of the potential for adverse publicity regarding AD, and that he wouldn’t have done so had the family not gone along with the idea - not because they would have stopped him or because he wouldn’t have had the funds but because it is important in that circle to proceed on the basis of a consensus and without the consensus he wouldn’t have proceeded.

Don’t forget Khaldoon wasn’t involved at the outset. If from the start it was intended to be an Abu Dhabi PR plug it is surprising that the media savvy Khaldoon wasn’t involved from the start. If you remember the original chairman made a lot of noise and invited a lot of ridicule (some of it perhaps unfair) and was moved on. Perhaps the better analysis is that the trashing that was Abu Dhabi’s reputation was taking at the time as a result of the various unwise statements that were being made from the new chairman made it necessary to parachute in some rather bigger hitters.

Also, when all is said and done I think Khaldoon and Sheikh Mansour have been mates a long time - I think they went to Uni in the states together - and Khaldoon quite apart from City was always deeply interested in football. I suppose when one of your oldest mates says to you “wanna run my football club? It’s an English premier league team” it isn’t exactly a difficult sell.
The only thing I can’t work out is how a seeming clown like Suleyman Al Fahim came to be the front man if it was a strategic move. But whatever the reason for the original deal, I’m in no doubt it soon turned into strategic geo-political play. The Washington emails made that quite clear in my view. And it’s naive to suppose that Khaldoon is doing his mate a favour. The involvement of people like Simon Pearce, Marty Edelman & Mohammed El Mazrouei are a clear sign that this goes right to the top.

To be honest this sits very uncomfortably with me. I think if it was the other way around and this was the rags then we’d all be up in arms about it.

Their owners are gigantic Trump fans, that should say enough about that scum management and team.

Two thoughts:
  1. This is not a City problem, it's a Football in general problem. The author mentions this but of course, City is the easy target and that's how you get the article views. Honestly, I would bet the majority of top teams have owners with sketchy pasts, you'd probably be hard pressed to find many that don't
  2. You can acknowledge abuses, admit they are wrong, hope for change, and still support the club. They are not mutually exclusive

Yeah, it's interesting how quickly people are to dismiss something as long as the person it accuses is on the right team. We saw that in Alabama last week with them almost electing a child abuser. Half of my family work for BAE System, but that doesn't mean I have to ignore valid criticism when they're found to be selling money to utter shithouses like the ruling family of Saudi Arabia.

But I don't see how any of this should stop us fans from enjoying the success that this investment has brought. Our club is older than their country and it will still be there a long time after the current owners have been and gone. I don't really get what writers of articles like this actually want people to do, particularly fans. It seems like they just use the football angle to get clicks. Are they suggesting that these states should be banned from investing in businesses in our countries? Or that fans should boycott the club? Are they alleging that owning football clubs gives them a cover to commit even more human rights abuses?

So do you think we should do our best to have them removed then?

No because we don’t know all the facts! But just because they have been fantastic football owners and turned my club into the force it is today doesn’t mean I’m going to be hypocritical and turn a blind eye to any negative press about them.

Spot on.
