Highly critical article about Citys' owners

No because we don’t know all the facts! But just because they have been fantastic football owners and turned my club into the force it is today doesn’t mean I’m going to be hypocritical and turn a blind eye to any negative press about them.
Perhaps you ought to read Chris in London's post a couple of pages back.
It dissects the truth behind the article superbly

Don’t forget Khaldoon wasn’t involved at the outset. If from the start it was intended to be an Abu Dhabi PR plug it is surprising that the media savvy Khaldoon wasn’t involved from the start. If you remember the original chairman made a lot of noise and invited a lot of ridicule (some of it perhaps unfair) and was moved on. Perhaps the better analysis is that the trashing that was Abu Dhabi’s reputation was taking at the time as a result of the various unwise statements that were being made from the new chairman made it necessary to parachute in some rather bigger hitters.

Very good point, probably the best argument against the idea it wasn't Sheikh Mansour's money or idea to begin with, which is the story this article wants to tell(fake news)... although as Prestwich Blue says it doesn't rule out they all became much more interested in the project at some point.

I do question the authors real agenda because there's this big push that it's in the interests of human rights and morality yet at some points it's almost as if he's saying all the rumours about Qatar are bitter lies with "ulterior motives" from Abu Dhabi... is that not a bit suspect for someone in his position to be so dismissive when it suits him? This issues raised reaches further than just City the wealthy Arab states of the Persian Gulf have links to most of the top clubs in world football now(PSG, Real, Barca, Bayern, Arsenal... are Chelsea's Russian links much better?).

Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed an economic blockade, accusing Qatar of aligning itself with Iran and supporting Islamic terrorist groups. However, while these accusations masked ulterior motives, the antipathy is very real and it would come as no great surprise if the Al Nahyans decided to rename Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernadeu stadium the “Qatar/ISIS Alliance Arena.” How this squabble will play out on the proxy battleground of the Champions League is anyone’s guess but don’t expect either Qatar or Abu Dhabi to put grievances aside out of any love of the game. They have no love of the game nor any interest in its well-being.

His closing paragraph also smacks of the kind of bitter talk that wouldn't be out of place on redcafe:

So tune into that Amazon Prime documentary if you must, but you’ll have to wait for mine to get the full story. Funding has proven a bit of an issue and it doesn’t have a title yet, but the first episode is going to be called “Sheikhs’ Lies and Videotape.”

What has the Amazon Prime documentary got to do with any of this?

This and the OP that lobbed it in has done one,one of those set up threads me thinks
Nah, not done one! Just reading the comments and trying to get a better understanding of the validity of this article, you know, like I said in the OP.

I've no need to justify my blue credentials to anyone, however despite being the youngest of 5 match going blues and nearing 50 now, if there was a direct link between our owners and some despicable acts, I'd rather be best informed(the reason for looking for other opinions and posting it on here)and make my choices with that information, I could and would leave City behind if the alternative was not to be able to look myself in the mirror each morning.

I'm hoping this is all bullshit, but I also know there are some intelligent and rational posters on here, that's where i'll hope to get some guidance from.

Hope your Injury gets better soon, keep posting the team sheet first.

This has been discussed a 100 times, the author is iffy and if you know anything about the club you would know where we stand in the big picture
Hope you have indeed learnt from all the very good posts,as always there are very good posters that know their stuff on this subject,we have no blood on our hands as a football club

Lots of good points already made on this thread, but what struck me as being most hypocritical within the article is the way he chided the U.A.E then by extension Sheikh Mansour then by extension Manchester City because people go to prison over there for posting on twitter. It's absolutely disgraceful that they do btw, but if he looks a little closer to home, he'll see that people over here are doing longer sentences for offensive tweeting than they are for burglary and crimes against the person. If he wants to fight for freedom of expression, he should be campaigning against all of the clubs in this country for financing the U.K. justice system, not just City. But that probably doesn't fit his agenda.

I think his claims were more based on the fact there are people appointed to the board who have a closer relationship to the crown prince than they do Mansour. I don't think he's disputing Mansour "owns" the club as far as the paperwork is concerned anyway, he is just pointing out that there's reason to believe his brother is more involved than is being let on. Personally, I welcome the opportunity to have more information available to me to help form a better picture of who the people involved in the running of our club are. And if I don't like what I learn, I'm not going to go on the defensive or make excuses for them. I'll probably just try not to think about it and carrying enjoying supporting the team i've loved all my life. A stance i'm not entirely comfortable with but the best one i've got.
So someone with a clear vested interest in negative stories says key people are closer to Sheikh Mansoor's brother than our Sheikh and we/you are supposed to believe him? Based on what evidence? Or do we have to believe him because its in print? Maybe I should believe that there is a London bus stuck on the moon or that Freddy Star eats goldfish because I have seen pictures of them in the paper.

fuck em all,
the sheik has been brilliant with something ive loved for 50 years ,he breathed life into something I've loved for 50 years ,he gave me something I could only dream about ,now he's turning my club into a fucking monster, so fuck em ,I don't give a flying fuck what all these people say because I know that if the sheik had chosen their club they would be fucking loving it as well,so fuck em fuck em all.

You caught exactly how I would feel if any of his pals wanted to help my team out.

Have you ever considered a career in the diplomatic core?
