Highly critical article about Citys' owners

Well I think everyone should boycott the Premier League, due to the UK government's record on human rights & their military alliance with Donald Trump.

And we could instead watch Spanish football perhaps.

No, too much history with Franco supporting Real Madrid (they still rest on the foundation Franco built) and not impressed with their clear human rights violations in Catalonia recently. Better watch Serie A instead.

If we were at the bottom of the table fighting against relegation, not a single soul from would give a rat's arse where our money came from.

Yep. IIRC Dr Death, aka Thaksin Shinawatra, was several places higher on the list of the world's worst human rights abusers but City were several places lower in the league so less of a fuck was given.

Nah, got Berlusconi over there and his corruption, I suggest the Bundesliga.

Geoff Clipp refers again in his long post,in fact not 'refers' he states human rights abuses. And accused me of being in denial. I ask again Mr Clipp show some evidence of human rights abuse and not just the possibility that a video MAY exist showing criminal behaviour of a person independent of our owner. It is not me that is denial it's you who are only too happy to deny our owner his own human right to be seen as innocent until there is no longer reasonable doubt about guilt.

Good post. We shouldn't bury our heads about it but at the same time we shouldn't all be on a lifelong guilt trip about it, especially if the ones trying to put us on that guilt trip just happen to support a rival football team and who clearly don't give 2 shits about alleged human rights abuses in Abu Dhabi. Not only that, but Abu Dhabi has far bigger business interests in the western world than simply owning Manchester City. 90% of the iconic Chrysler Building in New York is owned by Abu Dhabi and you never see these articles name-checking that. Or name-checking Barclays Bank when our owner bought billions of pounds worth of shares in them, so it's understandable why City fans might feel victimised about this.

It's well worthy of discussion though and certain things don't sit quite right with me. One in particular was when I was walking up Portland Street on the Friday afternoon ahead of this year's Manchester Pride weekend. Adorning all the lamp posts were Rainbow banners with the City badge on them proudly proclaiming that MCFC supports Manchester Pride. That's very laudable of course and City have backed that particular event since before the ADUG takeover, but when you consider that homosexuality in our owner's homeland is illegal the 2 things are kind of at odds with each other. Of course, this is an issue aligned to his religion and obviously isn't just confined to Abu Dhabi so it would be wrong to single out one particular person of that religion and as such, I'm not sure how things can change on that anytime soon.

Pretty much sums up how I feel. I do think it's inevitable our name will get dragged into it more and more now though and the simple reason for that is we're making people take notice of us by being the best team in the most watched league in the world. People are bound to be more interested in that than they are the Chrysler building or Barclays bank.

With respect to our ongoing support of Manchester Pride, our presence at that event continues to noticeably put that of United's to shame. I don't have a clue about the views of our owners themselves but I know it can sometimes be the case that the ruling powers in some of these countries can't affect much change at home when there are powerful religious factions resisting.

How does the OP feel about our Queen rolling out the red carpet for this human rights barbarian? Also trading with him...
I'll just paste this from his last visit...

In a speech, the Queen told the president: "Our two countries have been close friends since before the foundation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971, under the wise guidance and leadership of your late father, Sheikh Zayed."

She added: "The UAE is one of our largest trading partners in the Gulf region, and we have welcomed Emirati investments in the United Kingdom in many areas from the construction of the largest port facilities in the UK to the Emirates Skyline, the spectacular cable-car crossing over the Thames and, of course, Manchester City."

The president had earlier been treated to a welcome of pomp and military splendour.

He enjoyed a carriage procession with the Queen through Windsor to the castle where guardsmen from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards in their scarlet tunics and bearskins formed a guard of honour.

The visit helps build on the relationship between the two countries, which have a growing partnership in defence and security

The UAE represents Britain's largest export market in the Middle East.

President Al Nahyan's state visit follows one made by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to the UAE in 2010 and a visit there by Mr Cameron in November.

The president's late father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan paid a state visit to the UK in 1989.

Annual bilateral trade between the UK and the UAE now exceeds £10bn. More than a million Britons visit the UAE each year.

Arf! Posted on Red Cafe in response to a poster who claimed City are the main vehicle for the AD PR exercise - told him he better cancel his family day out to Buckingham Palace

I think we're OK watching Spanish football, but only if we stick to watching pro-Catalan/Basque clubs to avoid showing support for the fascist government in Madrid.

Basque separatists use terrorism, Im not having that.

After world war 2? Are you serious?

BT show the Dutch league sometimes. We should be okay with that.

Sheikh Mansour's human rights? What on earth are you talking about? I haven't even accused him of being guilty of anything. The point under discussion is that Simon Pearce and our chairman both have a direct link with the crown prince and Simon Pearce's own emails suggest CFG is part of a wider strategy to improve the perception of Abu Dhabi in the wider world. The assertion that there is no proof of human rights violations in Abu Dhabi is clearly one of someone in total denial. I'm not saying Sheikh Mansour is guilty of any human rights violations, but it's definitely happening under the crown Prince's watch and there is a relationship between him and our board.
