Great book about the English comedian hitching around the entire circumference of Ireland for a bet. With a fridge, which must accompany him at all times.
Funny book, recommended

I read that years ago. There's another one called Fever Hitch by a Sheffield United fan. Fella was a cop-out as he'd ring his dad or one of his mates up for a lift whenever he got stuck - anathema to a real hitcher.
I hitch-hiked for about 20 years, up and down to London, round the country to matches, around Europe, as far north as Copenhagen, as far south as Italy. I thumbed it to the Dolomites once to see City in a friendly. Last time I had to hitch (no coaches or trains from London late ona Friday night) was about three years ago after a concert at the Albert Hall, as City were playing Newcastle the following dinnertime. As hitching is so rare these days (the internet, Easy Jet etc.) it's a dying art and so unfamiliar to many drivers. I only got as far as Bradford and got the train from there so as not to miss the match. I hung my thumb up after that one.
Fortuantly no-one thought it was but ex servicemen would spot it & stopsimonk said:cyberblue said:I used to hitch up & down the country when i was in the Royal Navy .used to get lifts pretty quick when i had my sailors hat hanging from the bag .Lorry drivers were good they used to go out of there way to drop me in a good spot for my next lift
is having your sailors hat hanging from your bag a euphemism for something a bit oo err?
