Hobbies for the middle aged man

Had my birthday recently and the girlfriend bought me a Lego Technical set for a Vespa in City sky blue. I’d mentioned to her that I’d loved Lego as a kid and had some of the first Technical sets (a tractor and a fork lift) so she got me a set.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed putting it all together and I’m looking forward to buying another one.
If you have the patience then it’s great way to pass the time.
I've just built my first lego set. Ecto-1. 3000 odd pieces. It was fairly easy, I did a bag every other day, but I enjoyed it.

What wasn't easy was the bastard light and sound kit I bought for it. Designed for tiny handed freaks.

Is chess an enjoyable game
It is. It takes a bit of time to go from how each piece moves, to how to use them strategically as you try to defeat your opponent. You start to develop the ability to anticipate moves, to plan two to three or more moves ahead. To try to lay traps, how to defend. Always better to play against much better opponents, you learn more, get handed your arse on a loop, but you improve.

I wouidnt call it a hobby, but as I have aged gracefully, I get a lot of joy from walking in the countryside, seaside or looking at hills. I appreciate it more and it soothes me. Getting out is always worth it.

Planting flowers that attract pollinators and butterflies brings me joy, I love a bee and butterflies. We have just discovered that dragonflies are abundant too. They look great.

Sitting in the garden with a bastard cold cider, watching our flying pals and listening to the choir of birds, then the bats and swifts cutting shapes is not a bad way to spend some time.

Go fishing. Fly fishing specifically where in addition to maybe catching fish you get to practice the zen art of fly casting. But fellow hobbits the fun doesn’t stop there, hours of enjoyment messing about in boats, communing with nature and all sorts of birds, insects and mammals and the not insignificant associated hobby of fly tying (or tie flying) whichever floats your fishing boat.
Go on. You know you want to.

I've always fancied a bit of fly fishing but wouldn't know where to start.

Do any of them nest in your beautiful hair?
