Hoffenheim (H) Post Match Thread

Serious problem haha fuck me. We had half our best team out. We are probably the most free scoring side in the history of English football, if that's a serious problem then what were the years under Clarke, Neal Pearce, Ball etc.
Didn't miss many chances under Pearce tbf.

Have to create them in the first place to miss them.

Just seen that Ederson save on TV....WOW!!!....did not realise just how great a save it was at the game.[/QUO

Amazing save but ultimately meant fuck all as they scored the pen. Meanwhile save of the century last night, as the ball got twatted straight into the bargain buy keeper... It's a funny old game!

Phenomenal performance by Leroy. Good job. A few were below par. Foden excellent. So close with that volley.

Just watched BT Sport highlights of the other games. Only team that scares me is PSG. Dare I say it, but both City and Liverpool have a great chance of winning this.

Please let us draw Schalke.

Enjoyable game. Kudos to Hoffenheim for coming to play football.

Great to see Phil Foden get a full game and didn’t he grow into it? Well done Leroy for turning it round for us. Gundo played a tidy game and Eddie made a couple of important saves.

Thought Gundo did very well, Ederson fantastic, things getting very frustrating for Jesus though, wish to fuck he could bang in a couple, Raz, great game.
It just wouldnt go in, bar, post, their goalie was great, thing is though, we created the chances.

I like the fact that he creates situations by taking risks. He's not content playing the safe ball. Sometimes it doesn't come off but it creates excitement and opportunity. OK I agree he can make the wrong decision but on the whole his play was explosive.

Raheem just gets better and better, he now looks like a mature first teamer, he can change a game, lets enjoy his development happening week by week before our eyes.

Bernardo is 24. I’m pretty sure that by the time Phil is 24 he will be at that level.

As I said in the match day thread, Jesus’s contribution to this team is much more than goals. he is probably the hardest working player on the team. He never stops running, he creates so much space for his teammates and his back tracking is phenomenal. yes, I wish he scored more goals but I really don’t care as long as someone is scoring.
David Silva had problems scoring.
Sterling did too.
Pep has put that right, and he will do with Jesus too.
Also, before he was injured, Aguero missed a lot of chances.
I think that our front three should be Sane,Jesus, and Sterling at all times until Kun returns and then he should replace Jesus.
Also, if anyone has to be played out of position, it should be Mahrez rather than Sterling.

Except they happen far too often and are therefore a serious problem.
I don’t understand why it’s a problem at all. Football is a very simple game. If we score more goals than our opponents we win and if we win more games than anyone else we win the trophies. We don’t need to win by more than one goal - although admittedly it’s more fun. It may frustrate and it may make you angry or nervous but it’s hardly a serious problem.

I honestly think you need to watch that second half again. He was great. He made some lovely passes, found lots of space, had a couple of good attempts on goal (actually one of them was great) and was constantly looking to mov the ball forward.

I think I prefer Pep’s interpretation of his performance.
Agree. I watched the 2nd half and thought Foden was very good. Sane was also class.

I found the game very frustrating and as a team performance I would rate it our worst of the season. The way Hoffenheim came at us, leading with their chin just about all night, we really should have run up a cricket score. That we didnt was down to the team not clicking together which i guess is understandable given the number of changes made.
There were some good individual performances though:
Sane in particular was unplayable at times
Raheem was bursting with confidence, very direct and dangerous albeit, like every one, the final ball was sometimes off
Phil, after a shaky start looked the part and got better as the match went on
Eddie proved that he is a shot stopper although the fact that he had a number to make tells you everything about the teams control of the game
Gabby's play and workrate was excellent other than his finishing which was frankly poor
Gundo played ok. Not great, but ok.

Stones, Walker, Bernie, Ota all poor.
Need a better team performance on Saturday.

15 pages and no one has mentioned Stones not being a full back.

He was absolutely dire. Didn't know where to be positionally. He didn't engage any attacker one on one. Didn't stop any crosses.

His body language was dreadful too.

Keep him in the middle please Pep.

Positives were Foden and Sané of course.

What a save by Ederson in the first half too

Stones is a confidence player and needs to play regularly. You don’t catch the dippers rotating their key defenders. Laporte and Stones need to play more regularly as we look more solid. Second half we got more of our mojo back. Phil is going to be some player.

Bernardo is 24. I’m pretty sure that by the time Phil is 24 he will be at that level.

As I said in the match day thread, Jesus’s contribution to this team is much more than goals. he is probably the hardest working player on the team. He never stops running, he creates so much space for his teammates and his back tracking is phenomenal. yes, I wish he scored more goals but I really don’t care as long as someone is scoring.
more like iniesta level (;

Great entertainment and a Sane masterclass. Glad Foden great into the game in the second half with those fine crosses and shots.

It didn’t matter now but I’m not sure who played worse, Stones or Walker. The simpler formation in the second half helped the rest of the team
Walker playing in his position v Stones playing out of position. Thought Walker was very poor again has he has been all season he really needs to up his game and stop making "schoolboy" errors
