Would anybody on here actually go abroad this year in the highly unlikely event of Spain , Italy , Greece etc reopening ??
Unlikely to go anywhere until South Africa at Christmas I’d imagine. That’s a bloody long and hot summer I’m stuck with.

yes, they will send an email when they cancel with your options.
Once that happens you can also exercise your right to use sec 75 if a credit card over £100 or charge back if less than that to reclaim via your credit card.
However The foreign office have advised against all travel indefinitely so you can claim now against travel insurance if you have it.

Thanks. Hadn't got around to insurance; I booked the flight and hotel separately using my CC.

They are taking the piss.

My flight for 17th March and was cancelled on the 15th. I immediately opted for a full refund on their website. 5 weeks on, I still haven't received a refund and have completed the online form out (although I did similar a month a go).

I appreciate they have a lot of cancellations to process but it's criminal how they just keep hold of people's money like that and don't provide any form of response. Their phone lines are jammed and they just send generic replies on twitter.

Am I being cynical in believing that the pressure on all economies will be so great that Governments will allow tourism to resume regardless of safety ? The foreign office lift the advice against travel and come July , August and September we are then faced with losing all your money or feeling pressurised into travelling.

Don’t think that’s cynical. I think it’s realistic.

That won't happen before other lockdown measures are lifted.

Australia for instance has blocked all international visitors until end of the year.

That's awful, you have all our heartfelt sympathies.;-)
Ha I’m serious. I normally go back to the U.K. for a couple of months. You literally can’t be outside so it’s pretty much like a lockdown. It’s not remotely pleasant.

I'm in Scotland. We occasionally crave sun, actually we always crave it, but I'd rather be here than in the 30+ degrees where you are.
Stay strong!

I do the same trip to the Uk for the same reasons but realized your place must be unbearable in comparison when I have expat clients from the Middle East wanting to buy in Portugal to escape the summer weather there - you must have the AC on 24/7 in summer!

AC has been on non stop since end of Feb mate and will remain on until December. (We do have a big hairy Newfoundland dog though so my Mrs usually wears several layers inside)
