My eldest interrailed round Europe a few years ago and said Split was crap and you're better going to Dubrovnik
She did mention that Plitvice Lakes national park was well worth a visit if you're into white water rafting, coasteering etc

Has anybody been on holiday to Croatia?

The wife wants to go to Lapad this year for our holiday and she is dead set on it, but it doesn't look like somewhere i would want to go. Not that i have anything wrong with the place it looks nice but i like nice food and everything seems to be stews, stews and more stews!

I will need some convincing so i was wondering if anyone has 1st hand experience of the place?

We have an air bnb booked for Lapad in June 2024.
Cannot wait to get there and explore Dubrovnik. Get in a day trip to either Bosnia or Montenegro too.

Dubrovnik area is fabulous use the buses to explore loved the place last year.

I would agree regarding Plitvice but disagree about Split. I found it a really enjoyable city and actually preferred it to Dubrovnik.

Rijeka is nice and underrated. Rocky beach tho. Zagreb is fantastic

Agree I loved Split, has a lot of character and have happy memories holidaying there.

As others have said though, Croatia is surprisingly expensive.

Had a fortnight in Hvar a few years back, most enjoyable and free beer in the bars if you mentioned Davor Sukor.
Accommodation we had was very Titoesque at the Palace hotel - resident pianist tinkling away in the background with Bill Gates popping in for tea from his yacht in the harbour - but lots more choice these days I believe.

We all enjoyed Split. It was very nice. Lucky with the weather and great people too.

The Croatia fans clapped us back in to town.
