Holidays

Hiya mate, I’ve only been the once so can’t comment on any differences on niceness (I loved it though, and was pleased they’ve actually taken responsibility for the stray dogs in the area unlike many places in the world), I’ll ask my girlfriend when she gets back about those kind of changes as she’s obviously been loads visiting her dad and will know, but I can’t imagine it will have changed much at all since your last visit.

Food and drink I would say is compatible to the UK now (her dad has said it’s gone right up recently) I’d say it’s similar to those “pub grub” type places here though eating out( like ‘Hungry Horse/Brewers Fayre’ type places) in that you’ll pay around £10 for a decent cheese burger, chips and salad, the supermarkets, again I found them pretty similar to those here.

If you do get a chance and finances allowing (if you haven’t already done it that is) Kekova and Simena on a boat for the day is fantastic and good VFM ( and I’m a right tight bastard) think it was about £40 each with a meal cooked by the Capt.View attachment 54014
Hi Mate, thanks very much for the info. Your girlfriend's father made the right decision to live there. It's so beautiful and relaxed. I believe it was an old English lady who started looking after the stray dogs. All credit to her for doing such fantastic work. Thanks once again.

No worries mate, and she said it’s not changed much at all from 2016.

Hi Harry, been to Kalkan 6 times. Wife and I love the place. Stayed in the Pirat, Happy hotel and Kalamar hotel. Last time we were there was 2015 and if I remember rightly the exchange rate was something like 2.6. I see the rate is now 20.0 and inflation is about 80%. Used to eat quite a lot in the Alternatif. Just wondered if Kalkan is still as nice? How about the price of food and drink?

I'm off to Kalkan on Thursday (and missing 3 home games in the process). I was there in May too. Everything is pretty much the same although the place continues to grow. My girlfriend (being ex-military and thus very organised) notes prices every year and it works out roughly the same allowing for inflation.

Alternatif, for example, although quite expensive by local standards, still works out at around £60 between us for 3 courses and (moderate) drinks which is decent value for top steaks.

As for the dogs, my partner is a dog-lover and supports the local charity which looks after them. (Think it's called KAPSA or something). One problem they have is that people from outside dump dogs in Kalkan knowing they'll be sorted which, of course, increases the burden on them.

Going to icmeler never been there before.
Normally go to kusadasi or belek
A purpose built blue flag resort with a nice crescent bay and I guess your in for a treat. Easy walk along the coast line to Marmaris should the fancy take. I like Icemelor more than Marmaris but Turkey's off our hit list for the time being.

Enjoyed the Majestic bar for entertainment by the canal, but it's hard not to find a good night out on every street corner.

Cant remember the name of this pub/eatery at the waterfront but it was intense and the sunbeds and music were all served up free. Prices were for pennies and we lived it up like Kings.

Thanks for the update mate.

One was recently dumped on her dads doorstep (last couple of weeks) , so they now have 3 dogs they’ve taken in.

In Blackpool now after a week in Tenerife.
A lot better than I was expecting.
Price of beer and breakfast terrible compared to Tenerife but the nice weather makes Blackpool a decent day out.
The North Pier a bit of TLC and it could be a good wee sunspot as well.

There are cheapish pints available try The Ardwick.
