Holidays

Booked up for a week in Rimini mainly following the Giro d Italia and doing a bit of cycling.

Really looking to our trip Capetown for our 20th anniversary of getting married there. Fantastic place and at present insanely good value for money.

Booking that Palma trip shortly.
For next week.

6 miles outside the city (that's so pricy) but next to the beach, v close to the Aquarium and with a bus service every 10 mins into Palma itself.

Definitely using the train to Soller at one stage.

Questions over the Airport (it's been so long since I've been away). Plane lands around 11:45pm - fortunately only 1.5 miles away from the airport. Easy enough to grab a local taxi at this time of night:? Likely to take card payment?

Again, figuring I won't need to take any cash/Euros and get by with card payment everywhere but I don't know....
Forgot to report back on this.

Had an amazing time with my lad. I'd forgotten how important travelling to another country is for the soul (if you can do it). It's been years since I did this type of holiday.

Palma is a beautiful city. Such energy. Akin to a smaller barcelona. Dug out a few 'artisanal' bakeries and coffee shops to satiate that need.
The trip to Soller on the 'wooden wild west train' was an absolute blast. The tram on to the port was lovely too (such a lush spot that!). Spotted an octopus chilling amongst the million pound yachts.
Made me laugh how I had pretty constant 5g signal for the entire journey through the middle of nowhere, yet here on the UK it can be patchy as hell.

Spent a fair bit of time paddle boarding as my son always wanted to do that. The resort was nice, but these places feel like one of those Scooby Doo cartoon chases....the same bar and restaurant appearing very few mins as you walk along, but it was a happy compromise for us both.

Each evening me and my boy would just sit on the balcony (with the slick, but nervy glass protection) and watch the world go by and these were my favourite bits. Cognisant these would be making memories and indeed, we both look fondly back at this trip.

First thing I did when I got back was to buy us both two small suitcases to inspire us to do more trips like this. I'd really missed it and his confidence is astonishingly low atm (he;s almost a recluse at his mums place) so hoping this kind of thing helps.

Thanks for all the tips and help folks!!

Majorca if you take the odd resort out of the mix is just fantastic, I’ve had the joys of cycling the full island and it never fails to amaze. As the for the phone coverage I’ve been in the mountains and have always been amazed how great the coverage is.

Yeah, Cape Town is amazing.

Off to disneyland paris first thing tomorrow. Day in paris tomorrow, then 2 days in disney
I went in 2017 I was dreading it.
Got there had a ball out in the park from 8.00am getting back to the on site gone midnight. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
I was half board. Made up sandwiches for the day from the breakfast buffet and had vouchers for evening meals in any of the on park restaurants.
Drinks on site are very expensive, water was €4.00 six years ago.
A tip for Paris food wise on the main streets a spaghetti bolognaise for instance might be €20 and a Kronenberg €10. Walk down a side street it will be half the price.

My biggest memory of the Eiffel Tower was all of a sudden needing an emergency shit.

Spotted a bar/restaurant nearby and almost ran in, ordered a beer and asked where the bog was. It was downstairs but to my horror the male toilet was shut but the female one open. By this time I’m so desperate so in the ladies it was.

Now, I’d been on all kinds of rich and varied food and drink, once the eagle had landed it wasn’t a very nice aroma, I was trying to clean myself up when I heard women outside the cubicle door (it was the only one in the toilet). Was pretty obvious they were waiting for trap 1. I could hear them speaking and almost wretching. I had no choice but to get out, as I opened the door I could see they were a couple of cleaners and a customer. I just wanted out asap, I turned the tap on to wash my hands, the water dribbled out and the three women were staring at me, making disapproving faces at me and generally making me so embarrassed.

So, I get out, run upstairs thinking my beer would be there so I could down in one and run off to meet Mrs H back at the Tower. However, the barman hadn’t even pulled the drink even though I’d paid, he started to pour it, me still red faced when one of the Cleaners appeared next to him and started talking (in French of course) to him and pointing at me, the embarrassment level just increased as the barman shook his head and shoved the drink at me. I necked it in one and disappeared as quick as possible.

Not my best holiday experience but a memorable one.
