Holidays

A couple of contrasting holidays for us this year. have booked a camper van for a week in July for a week round Wales. First stop Machynlleth and then down the coast and back up through the Brecon Beacons and on to Llangollen. We've done most of North wales plenty of times so happy to miss that out for new places.

On a whim really booked India for October, never been so doing the classic golden triangle. Will be away for my 60th birthday and this does sort of sum up the lengths I'm happy to go to to avoid a surprise party. Or any sort of celebration really.
What kind of places are you visiting mate? I’ve been to some right stunning places down south and west wales. And the beacons are amazing!

Going to Acharavi (Corfu) end of May taking the grandkids with us not cheap, also going to Leipzig on Tuesday till Thursday, it's only money :(

Watched a program on NHL Japanese English Channel about Menton in the south of France looks really nice for a couple of days break, the flights to Nice are cheap and the Hotels are reasonable, so hopefully we will go

Got an itinerary in mind but dependent on finding places to stay. We’ve done Pembrokeshire before but not for a few years. Stackpole and Barafundle, the Gower, Tredegar but all sorts of places of interest inbetween

barafundle, rhosili , Tenby and the gower are beautiful. Some of the drives around Brecon Beacons are breathtaking FairPlay. Not sure what’s about in tredegar, but there’s some great scenery around the bwlch mountain. Walking up penyfan is worth the pain.
plenty of great castles too if that’s of interest to u? If u get decent weather then wales is surprisingly beautiful.

Sorrento next for me in June …with day trips to Amalfi Capri and Positano. Hints and tips gratefully received
If you're driving on the Amalfi coast avoid Saturday or Sunday afternoon as every biker thinks they are Valentino Rossi.

If you're a confident driver then hiring a car and getting out and about down to Paestum which has some impressive ruins of Greek temples (yep Greek, from when they controlled the southern part of Italy) is good. If you're even braver then cutting inland and heading out east of Potenza the scenery is stunning all the way to Matera. If you are doing that book some accomodation though as its a bit of a trek (4hr drive).

Alternatively hiring a driver and a car is a much less stressful way to see the coastline but make sure either way you go up to Ravello its up in the hills just beyond Amalfi.

Cheapest way to get to Herculaneum is catch the Circumvesuviana Train. Costs next to nothing, when you get to Herculaneum (the Station is Scavi Ercolano) exit the station and walk down the hill. Its a bit of a rough looking area but safe enough and about a 10-15 min walk. You can get an English speaking guide once you are there for a few euro. If you want to go up to the Vesuvius crater they also run 4x4 trips from just outside the entrance to Herculaneum.

Same train also takes you to Pompeii, the enterance to which is about 2 mins walk from the Station.

If you want to see most of what they pulled out of Pompeii its all in the Museum in Naples. If you want to go there, take the train to Naples Centrale and the Metro Line 1 to Museo. As with all cities there are pickpockets around so keep an eye out. Alternatively a taxi is about €13 from the Piazza Garibaldi to the museum.

Hope that helps.
