I think Zaba Vinnie Nasri and Clichy count also and in a couple of years Yaya and Silva.

Players need to have completed 3 years with an English club before their 21st Birthday to qualify as "home grown"

Clichy signed for the Arsenal at 17.

Those two shaw and barclay are both exceptional, for them to get champions league experience would be a big draw for them.

Don't bank on it.

Clyne might be worth a gamble.

At last. This guy is just as good as Shaw - maybe better. Never seen anyone beat him for pace (I'm sure someone will have a clip on standby to prove me wrong), he's getting better going forward every game, comfortable on the ball and only 21. Will only get better.

Only 21 ! so when he gets older will he declyne?

Luke Shaw, Ross Barkley and Nathaniel Clyne would be my top three young British talents.
But as stated above, would they continue to develop if they signed or us at this stage?

I think the plan might be to stick with international top players until the academy bears fruit. And by that I mean players now in our U18's and lower. In ten years time I'm sure we'll have more than enough domestic talent in our squad.

Good to hear Clyne is doing well. I have seen a lot of him, but loss track when he left Palace. I have always said he would be a top 6 player and got some strange looks from Palace fans. I remember saying Fonte would be good enough for a midtable Premiership club though he is not home grown. Was surprised when they made the move down to Southampton, especially Fonte, because he dropped down a division, but they made well informed decisions. Clyne has a great head on his shoulders. Have not seen much of Southampton, but from MOTD highlights he has really worked and improved his crossing.

Moses is another great talent we had and like Clyne thought he would play for a top 6 club at some point. I feel a bit sorry for him, because we had to sacrifice him to save the club. Martinez is a great manager for a young player to have, but I don't think he liked being so far from home. Would have preferred to sell him to someone local. Unlike Clyne, Moses does not really push himself hard enough. His has all the raw materials: speed, strength, long throw, skill, good shot and a good cross, but he often makes the wrong decision. I don't think a move to Everton would be the worst for him or even to Tottenham, which would be closer to home.

Zaha is the the player that gets most attention, but he was screwed over by RVP. He was never the type of player that Moyes would like. He is too unpredictable and at this age probably gives the ball away too much for United. I still think he is a great talent and believe he has what it takes to be a player for a team challenging for the title. He works hard, has good skill, a decent cross and a good shot. Sometimes he overdoes it with the tricks, but he makes the right decision a lot more than Moses and seems to have a passion to be the best, which Moses lacks. Would love for him to come back in January, but if we don't get him then a loan move to Newcastle would not be the worst thing for him. Pardew is well regarded at Palace and Zaha would have heard stories about him for a long time.

Then there is Jonny Williams. I hate his nickname Joniesta, because it putting unnecessary pressure on a young player. I think with Zaha he has the talent to play for a team challenging for the title. He is very similar to Wilshere, but not as talented. Wilshere has a better range of passing and shot. I think people might wonder if he is so good, then why can't he get into the Palace team? It's simply, because he is a small player and his best position will be in midfield. He can hold his own, but a team fighting relegation needs more defensive solidity. Watching him play his football intellect and movement are on another level to all of our players, so they often don't pick his runs out. It's a shame we cannot bleed him more this season, but developing a player into a 10 million pound man is not worth going down for.

Why would shaw's development be stunted - he is good enough to play in our first team now and could cement his place for years

Shaw would probably get into any other team in the Prem at LB except maybe Everton. Great talent for his age but there is also a general lack of quality left backs in the PL at the moment.
