just to throw a curve ball in how about cape verde islands, just got back from there off my honeymoon total class

How was the weather, I have been told it gets very windy.

Sorry to jump in on your thread OP although Tenerife seems to be the overwhelming shout on here anyway. It's just I was about to book a week in Egypt for the start of October but this thread is giving me second thoughts. So for two of us going for a week in the sun wanting a fairly chilled week but with a few half lively days out to go on,off a budget of about £450-£500 each for a week where would people recommend instead of Egypt?

I went to Boa Vista in Cape Verde a few weeks back.

Hotel was nice but absolutley nothing to do on the island, i soon got bored. My missis loved it though, sunbathing all day.
The wind is actually quite pleasant as it doesn't seem as hot.

My mate lives in Los Crisianos, Tenerife so I go and visit several times a year.

They've spent a bit of money in and around Los Cristianos. It's really nice round the beach areas either side of the harbour.
There's a newish complex "El Mirador". All the bars are pretty modern, aircon, comfy sofas, decent sound systems, plasmas etc. Ricky Hatton owns a luxury apartment there.
For £800 a piece you should be able to get a top end accommodation.[/quote]

Do you ever call in at the bluemoon terrace?

I wouldn't go to Egypt if I was paid £800 let alone part with that much to go

so would I as I loved it. Its true its full of arrogant Russians but I went to Northern Spain this year and it was full of arrogant Russians.

Thanks for all the replies... We really don't want to fly for more than 5 hours but we want sunshine.

Egypt is a 5 hour flight and you are guaranteed hot weather.
We had a two week stay in January and it was clear blue skys and in its 80`s every day !!
Me and the missus will definately go again. We stayed in Hurgada on the west coast of the Red Sea and had a fantastic overnight stay in Luxor, where the Valley of The Kings and Valley of the Queens is located.
We booked fully inclusive.
Depends on whether you just want a tranquil two weeks by the Sea/Pool or like to visit places of interest.
In all fairness,we stayed at the height of the overthrow, but the Egyptians couldn`t do enough for us.They are forever cleaning and this was confirmed by other English tourists we made friends with on our tours.
Plenty of young people in our hotel who only went for a week,as they too had heard it wasn`t the best country, but in the end they were gutted that they hadn`t booked a fortnight.
Its one of those places that you`ll either love or hate, like Malta !!
