The new Security Law passed yesterday in HK and as promised the Govt will open a pathway to British passport holders. Source BBC news. This is a big step and the right one. This will also antagonise China and having a bearing post Brexit and post Covid.

‘Raab tells MPs UK will offer citizenship rights to ALL 2.9m people in HK with British National (Overseas) status, not just those with passports. Bespoke immigration route: 5 yrs right to live & work, then apply for citizenship. No quotas. Dependents eligible
.’

Brilliant from the government.

Standing with the people of HK under such tyranny is what the UK should be about.

To make up for the previous tyranny we imposed to ‘win’ it in the first place......

*just a little joke. I don’t want to get into Opium Wars, The Empire and all that....

Although not the main aim, the potential for large numbers of relatively affluent Hong Kong Chinese people moving to the UK could help our Brexit transition significantly, particularly if the scope of our future relationship with the EU ends up very limited.

Irrespective of that it’s the right thing to do.

The only negative is that the owner of the empty house next door might move back from HK which will mean I won’t be able to use his green bin when mine’s full.

You cheeky get

I sometimes use his grey and brown bin as well. His blue one’s got a missing lid so it’s not much use as it fills up with rain.
I bet you lucky sods get large bins in Didsbury too, my bin here in Stockport is the size of one you’d put in the corner of your bathroom.

I am waiting to see if Farage is in his wellies stood on the white cliffs, shouting "go home" at errant folk with slightly slanted eyes whilst hundreds of DFLA protect the land of Churchill by singing no surrender to the Hong Kong Invaders who want to turn us all into Confuscianists and turn our good old English chippys into Chinese takeaways. Hong Kongians coming over here stealing our jobs, teaching us Kung Fu and living on benefits with 50 foot wide tellys and a free 4X4 in the drive way of their free £1million pound mansion.
