Hong Kong and Security Law

I agree in principle with what the government are doing, however I do have concerns how practically it’s going to work.

if say 3 million do come here. Where are the jobs/ housing, especially at a time where millions of people are losing their jobs. (No doubt I’ll be labelled as something)

I’d also say does it mean Hong Kong is basically abandoned to China. All the people who have protested so much for it, just leaving and not there to fight for what they believe in. What’s to stop China just doing the same in other countries?
Hong Kong belongs to China.
Always did.

There won’t be millions coming and as I’m not Tony Blair or Gordon Brown this isn’t a lie, right is right whoever does come should be welcomed imho.

millions will have the opportunity to come here - live and work.
And of course they should be welcome.

However as I’ve said, practically how will it work. How will we provide them with jobs and housing. When we are going through the worst set of job losses in decades... where are the millions of houses - when lots of people can’t get one. (It can take a year to get a council house)

it’s all well and good saying all of them can come here, but there needs to be a clear plan of how we will do that.

a lot of them that will come over, won’t be coming here as fruit pickers or cleaners like a lot of Eastern European’s have. A lot of them will be largely middle class and probably wealthy, who will want the jobs lots of brits want.

Huge job losses, housing and Infrastructure have to be considered.

yes help and welcome people in need, but to offer 3 million people the right to live here without any consideration of the practicalIty of it, is ridiculous. it’s not sustainable at all

Yeah but 3 million won’t come here

Raab will act hard in public. Behind the scenes he'll be on his knees begging for trade deals.

500 million had the chance to come here before Brexit. Nigel also said everyone in Turkey would move to Cheadle Hulme and you wouldn't hear English spoken on our trains anymore.

What will happen is the rich will come, the working class kids from Hong Kong wont come, they wont be able to afford it. Johnson and his cronies need rich people here to spend their ackers to help with our failing economy. You could almost call me cynical about it, but the Tories would never offer something like that without an ulterior motive, the blue rinse brigade would go nuts and Colonel Cackerton-Coombs from the Cotswolds would be writing strongly worded letters to the Torygraph and the Fail complaining about yellow slanty eyed folk disgracing the village greens and disturbing the sounds of willow on leather with their dragon boat racing on the village pond.

@Rascal I love your posts and this one, if I remove the political diatribe, I agree with. Of course we are making the offer to get the rich ones over, also the clever tecky ones and the young entrepreneurs. If China had any sense they would be doing what Castro did, emptying their jails of the drug dealers, Triads and any other ner' do wells, you watch us suddenly bring in rules then about who could come over. On the whole though it is the right thing to do. We gave them rights when we borrowed HK for 100 years and then sort of returned it with a conditional treaty so we should not abandon them now.

Yet another re-writing of the shiny new immigration bill that pisses all over the poor and vulnerable.

In what way ? At the moment they have said anyone who has a Brit Passport can come, they have not pit any riders in or are you meaning they are bypassing the immigration bill and if so should the government just ignore the HK Chinese ?
