Hong Kong

Over twenty years since I was there (back when it was still ours), but Temple Street night market would be one of my top recommendations if it is still the same, a meeting at Happy Valley is also something to savour.
From what i remember the prices are largely what you get here, although if you go to the high-end places you pay high prices

I would say it was London prices at the very least.

Off there in August. Anybody give me a point in the right direction as to how to eat and drink cheaply? or any other good tips of how to enjoy the place.

Never been anywhere like this so anything is appreciated.

Staying at the Sheraton.

I'm going in September, after Shanghai but I haven't booked an hotel yet. Is that one central/reasonably priced etc??

Lucky enough to have stayed in Hong Kong many times when I worked for a firm that had a manufacturing base in Shanghai and we used to spend time in HK at the weekends.
A tip for anyone wanting a good hotel in a central position in Kowloon near to the Waterfront and at a cheap price check out the Baden-Powell International House. It's on Austin Rd and is run by the Hong Kong Scout Centre. Check it out Blue's it's a hidden gem. As for things to do, Star Ferry to the Island, Funicular up the Peak for the night time view of the Harbour. Disneyland if you like that kind of shite, Hong Kong is made up of a couple of hundred Sub tropical Islands so sort yourself a trip out to one of those. If you have time you can visit Mainland China if you go to the Visa place which I think is on Peking St in Kowloon a couple of streets back from the Peninsular Hotel they will sort things for you and then you can organise a trip. The night market,is a good place to visit and you can eat cheaply and well, try the street food it's brilliant even better than a Maine Rd hot dog As someone has said get yourself a lonely planet guide.

-- Tue Jun 26, 2012 9:07 pm --

Try out the temple of 10,000 Buddas. Lots of steps up but it was (assuming still is) really nice and very peaceful compared to everywhere else. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Also the Jade market early as you can get some good bargains being one of the first customers.

The evening light show watched from Kowloon is great as well.

Afternoon tea at the Peninsula, one time only thing.

Enjoy.

You can spit all over the pavements and nobody will bat an eyelid.
Do a huge fart and everyone will look at you as if you have just killed a child.
Yes , this happened to me.

Did you fart on the child?

I threw up on the Big Budda.

Threw up? I bloody struggled to get anything down.I lost nearly a stone.
