Houssem Aouar

Mendy, Cancelo, Stones, Mahrez, Rodri (at the moment). Then you have players like Fernandinho, Aguero who aren't as good as they once were. Then theres players like Zinchenko, Gundogan who just are not good enough.

You’ve just completely switched the debate here ....
Ray was right IMO, we really haven’t overpaid for many of the current squad.

We did overpay for Mendy, Cancelo, Stones, Mahrez and Rodri

Mendy, Stones were considered decent purchases at the time, their form of late makes you correct ..... in hindsight
Cancelo, Rodri were market priced for very well thought of players
Mahrez was probably the only one you could say was overpriced but again at the time was in big demand and in fantastic form for Leicester

But overpaid? Nope not by a long chalk
Mendy, Cancelo and Mahrez were expensive, particularly Cancelo and his very limited impact, so far a terrible signing.

Stones was a fairly hot property at the time and an exciting signing, such a shame it went so wrong, but more down to the player than the club.

Cancelo was begining to prove his worth towards the end of the seasons. Injuries have killed Mendy's City career. Neither were 'terrible' signings at the time.

All we paid a fair price for. Two haven't worked as planned.

Mahrez has been what he is the rest have been pretty disastrous so far given their huge fees. The only one there is still hope for us Cancelo if he can stay fit the rest haven’t got it in them to improve.

We still paid a fair price and they were performing before they joined.

Only one I’d disagree with is Mahrez. Not saying he’a been a roaring success but he was a proven Premier league player who’d helped a fairly average team win the league and also won the PFA player of the year so I’d say his fee was fair. The rest we’ve had our strides pull down for.

There is no way we overpaid for Stones or Mendy at the time. Stones was key at the time to Peps plans and way of playing, and Mendy was one of the hottest properties in europe after his performances for Monaco. Both were actually very reasonable fees at the time but for various reasons that we couldn't have foreseen, have turned into bad signings.

No signing is terrible at the time, but Cancelo was a luxury signing, and in hindsight has shown to be a poor signing. A few decent games at the back end of the season with the pressure off is not a sign of greatness.

We simply don't know if Mendy was a good player or not, he was injured immediately after signing but at the end of the day he could have been very overrated at Monaco

And neither is it a sign of a poor player; let's just hope that Cancelo proves that he is the class player he looked like he was becoming.

Bernardo is just as good (if not better) when in-form.

Ideally, our midfield would predominantly consist of De Bruyne, Foden/B Silva and a mobile combative player. But I suspect we’ll see Foden/B Silva on the wing and Rodri paired with either Gundogan or Fernandinho.

He won't get in front of Walker, he, Walker far too consistent and far stronger physically.

Cancelo looked an exciting player, but in reality he looks very mehhhh, I really doubt his character, and maybe why he does not stay at a club for long. He clearly is talented in terms of a footballer.

I agree about Walker but think that Cancelo could be a good left-back solution, based on the run-in. On current form, Mendy appears some way off his best.

Ok against some teams, but a quality wide right player would destroy him.

Ok as back up but not as a regular LB.

It's about balance. Cancelo and a strong left-sided midfielder would force back the threat of a fast RW, as we saw with Leroy and Zin, repeatedly.
