Houssem Aouar

One of the biggest mistakes we have made - Pep's blind spot on him is going to cost us repeatedly.
100%

The bloke is so average in everything he does that it baffles me how Pep rates him so highly. The only time he shows his best is when we are playing a team with no inclination to attack us.

As for the thread topic.....no,we have others who perform a similar job.

We can’t act like kids in a sweet shop and buy everyone we like the look of. We‘re not even utilising Foden and Bernardo fully. They’d be worth a combined value of over £100m even in today’s market. Aouar isn’t nearly as much a priority as our next striker.
Immediate priority should be offloading Zinchenko and probably buy a LB unless they plan playing Cancelo and getting spots fixed for Bernardo and Foden.

I am hoping Cancelo will be up for LB this season - starting with an extended run - otherwise there‘s yet another few millions down the pan on defence. I truly believe he can step up. Only Pep knows if he’s in the right frame of mind to give it a real go.

Mendy’s dead meat for me and I’m not sure we have a role for Zin. Decent player but he’s not going to nail down a place at City. As for Bernardo and Phil, let‘s see them in more central roles. Bernie was pretty shit last year but is both talented and industrious so we have to reboot him.

Think why people are pushing for him is not that we don’t rate Phil or Bernardo but we do not believe Pep wants to play them centrally with KDB.

Bernardo and KDB sounds great to me, but I’m looking at it very simplistic. The word inside the club (well at least according to the Athletic) is Guardiola wants one midfielder playing on the front foot (De Bruyne) and one putting his foot on the ball (like David Silva).

We have watched numerous times where Gundogen has replaced Silva and as such Bernardo/ Foden has had most of his game time on the wing.

However when KDB was injured Bernardo played a lot centrally.

In 3 seasons how many times have they played in midfield together.

Long story but I missed the game on Sun and by all accounts glad I did, but it sounds we went to pot when Fern came off. I assume the sub pushed Sterling wide and Phil in midfield and so I doubt Pep is keen to try it again any time soon.

Just my view but I think this guy is needed and will be one we all turn round and say why did we not sign him.

Alternatively, I could have it wrong and Pep and his team might work on a way to get a midfield of Rodri, KDB and Bernardo/ Foden to work. Possibly inverting our full backs with Walker and Ake to help maintain control, who knows.

However in a couple of weeks, when you see Gundogan, Rodri midfield In a big game you might be wishing for Aouar too.

i think conceding after Fernandinho went off is a coincidence. He was very ordinary during the game. I think our collapsing had more to do with running out of gas similar to the Wolves game

Honestly think the same may happen with Sergio :( absolutely love the guy but we need to think it through.
He needs replacing. It’s just a fact.

Saying so doesn’t make anyone disloyal to the guy.

Kun secured his legendary status years ago. It’s not even up for debate, but he never plays a whole season, is not getting any younger and each injury takes another little piece out of him. Coupled with the fact we only have two recognised strikers, both injured now, it just shows his ultimate replacement should have been this year.

Repeated with Fern this summer (albeit, a legend)
People were losing their mind at the thought of letting Fernandinho go end of season. I personally would've let it happen and given him a proper farewell along with David when possible. We need fresh faces in a rebuild, football moves too fast now, you have to move quick, all big clubs are ruthless.

2 seasons ago can't wait for Bernardo to replace Silva
1 season ago can't wait for Foden to replace Silva
Now we "need" Aouar to replace Silva

Basically, if you like to run and drive forward with the ball at your feet too much we turn you into a winger exclusively.

Is that how things go now?
