How about a Yank?

Clint Dempsey would be a very good squad player.

Never going to happen. Dempsey is one of those guys that needs to be the center of attention. He will not accept a mere squad position. He is a cocky twat, granted a talented one, but I wouldn't want him at City. I love watching him succeed as a fellow American, but not in a City shirt.

-- Sun May 22, 2011 5:28 pm --

The kid who scored for them in the friendly against Argentina looks promising. But then, so did Freddy Adu.

I referenced Juan in a previous post in this thread. He is very very promising, but needs another year or two to develop his skills and physically mature. I think a year in a lower level European league would do him far more than playing one more in the MLS. But I like that the MLS is working harder to keep their young talents to grow the league. I would say by the time he is 20-21 years old, he'll be ready for a serious bid.

My sentiments exactly. Great to root for, but taking off the red, white, and blue, specs, would never want to see him in a sky blue kit.

If a young promising player comes to light in the MLS it's certainly worth a closer look, he'd likely be cheaper than a European player. If it's a success we'd have another player for rotation, if not chances are his price will go higher than what we paid for him just due to exposure thanks to the PL.

Though in honesty I don't see it bringing many fans in, the USA has too many of its own sports to really open up a market.

Top + American?

This is soccer not American football, the best players Dempsey and Donovan are nowhere near our quality and would not be happy rotting in the reserves, as for youth look at the last big American prospect to come out Freddy Adu, Turkish second division anyone?

Seriously though, top clubs don't have any so I don't see why we should have to.

1 of the biggest known footballers in the world is over in America, yet he is lesser known over there than a wrestler from fucking Preston.

good point....

fuck the usa market, they have too many sports

1,338,612,968 chinese people, surely one of 'em can kick a ball better than Jo

And Silva is part-japanese anyway so :)
I wasn't sure if you were joking with Silva's descent just looked up on Wikipedia his Dad is from the Spanish Canary Islands and his Mum is "of asian descent" it is thought she is from the Philipines?

Dempsey reminds me a lot of Bellamy, in both his skillset, his mentality, and his attitude. I love him on the National Team, but don't think he'd find much playing time at City.

The US do have some up and coming youngsters that could benefit from some time with the reserves and may develop into a solid contributing player down the road. Agudelo might be worth a shot.

Altidore would not be worth it. His only skill is the ability to run fast in a straight line (with the occasional headbutt). Terrible first touch.
