How confident are you about next Saturday?

Usually I get anxious before a derby because I'm expecting a defeat and worried about how bad it will be. Now I'm anxious because I know if we play like we played for most of the game yesterday we could really embarrass them, but fear we won't and could lose.

Wish I'd never read this thread now, I was beaming when I woke up this morning, I'm now shitting it.

I feeel similar to how I felt before the last Maine rd derby.

We could absolutely destroy them if we play at 100%.They are still on a downer after losing to Bayern-it showed yesterday.
Hopefully they will still be feeling sorry for themselves on Saturday and we can take full advantage.

But it's a derby-anything can happen,and thus I am totally cacking it.

I think we have to approach the game positively. At 2-1 in the Carling Cup we conceded the initiative by trying to keep it too tight when they were there for the taking. If we slip into that backs-against-the-wall mentality it will be our undoing. If he plays Rooney clearly makes a difference, but I really think we should concentrate on causing them problems - we won't be able to contain the rags for 90 minutes, anyway. Bloody hell, our front four are formidable and they will not relish playing against them. A lot will depend on Barry and NDL(or Viera's) performances, but I do hope that Mancini has the confidence to at least start with our current system, although Johnno will have to work as hard Bellars at supporting the full-back.

So for me, be positive, bring 'em on and beat 'em!

Spot on - we need to be positive right from the first kick. We can beat them with or without Wooney. We can definitely win this one.

We really need Chelsea to win on Tuesday to put the rags under more pressure to win against us. If we can then frustrate them for a while we could kill them on the break.

As it stands the rags will be coming to COMS with a total must-win focus. And high on our recent results though we may be, we should not forget that they are 2nd and 3 times PL champions and we are not.

We banged the goals in against a dreadful Burnley side and the Birmingham result flattered us. I think we have made real progress though over the past few weeks and we are starting to look half decent, but we're still very much work-in-progress.

Garrido can be frighteningly bad at the back and Ned (better than Richards in my view) has been known to make rash challenges in the area as well.

So we cannot EXPECT to win agains the reigning champions, and nor should we. I am 50-50 as to how it will go.

More confident than I can remember as long as we don't show them too much respect and get at 'em

With the performances and number of goals scored in last 3 games, growing more and more confident! Hopefully a Chelsea win will put more pressure on them, would love us to win withough anything dodgy going our way so we can say we dicked them fair and square but the rags will always find something that was unjust!

My first ever derby game aswell so I hope we give them a right thrashing!!!

Can't wait!!!!

I think the rags are going to swamp the midfield even if Rooney is risked.
---------Rooney-------------
--Nani-------------Valencia---
----Gibson---Carrick-----------
---------Fletcher-------------

The key battles will be in midfield, that little scrote fletcher will be fouling all afternoon and imagine the other rags in midfield will be getting in on the act as well. Like all derby's it'll be unpredictable and should have a bit of spark with all that went on in the carling cup, and the 7 mins of fergie time in the league...and the small matter of Tevez! Hopefully we can do it, which would be fanstastic. But, I'm going for a 1-1 draw.

The only thing is, do we play a 4 man midfield which we look like we have got going. Or do we play a 3 holding midfield, with Ade,Tevez and Bellers up top.

IMO we need too attack so I would play

----------Tevez----Ade---------
Bellers---Barry---Dejong---Johno

We thern no that attack is what we have to do. We also no that united arn't very good at dealing witth preasure so Booby needs to set our players out with the intent of being 1-0 down.

I'm more worried someone with throw something from the crowd, than I am about the rags on the field, you know the FA will be looking to come down hard on us after letting the rags off twice this year for the same offence.

Could go 1 for 1 with Utd all over the pitch, but despite our recent good form I think we have to accept that they have better players so we have to deal with them tactically i.e. play to our strengths, negate our weaknesses and get at their weaknesses etc

You could argue that our strength is our forward line and wingers, but remember the Everton game? We had forwards out there, but we couldn't get them in the game because they bossed the midfield, and whe we did have the ball they had pushed right up the pitch and they soon crowded us out.

Utd's main threat is Valencia and we have to stop him getting the ball. I'd drop Johnson, and play an extra man in midfield. I'd also let them attack us, and hit them on the break with the pace of Tevez, Adebayor and Bellamy.

I 'd continue with using Tevez in midfield but move Bellamy up front to partner Adebayor

---------------Given------------
Onouha--Toure-Kompany--Bridge
---Zabeleta--De Jong--Barry----
------------Tevez--------------
-------Adebayor-Bellamy--------

That's a narrow team, and Utd tend to play with wingers ie Nani and Valencia, but I'd aim to get on top in midfield and deny them the ball, and then use our pace and height up front

In the past Fletcher, Park and Carrick have run the midfield in our matches

Its a Derby and so anything can happen, hence our recent Trevor Sinclair/Darius Vassell wins. However I feel the key area will be who comes out on top in Barry v Fletcher. Win the Midfield and we win the Game. The best part is our current run coinciding with the demise of Liverpool and Spurs' horrendous run in allows us breathing space even if it goes wrong on the day.

Normally i dread it, but going into the game with the scum winning one of their last 4 and losing 2, us scoring 14 in 3 games, imo the pressure is pretty much on them next week,

like adebayor said we just play our game and get on with it, the importance of the fixture is an added thing, the scum will need to win against us, if chelsea beat bolton tomorrow we beat the scum and chelsea beat spuds it's all over.

i honestly think we'll win, regardless of whether shrek is playing or not,

this has to be the best time in over 10 years for us, to be going in a derby match.

Never 100% confident against Salford Redsox but it's now or never guys.

Our time has come !! Play like we have been playing and we could score 5, but equally happy with the scrappy 1-0

I'd play almost the same team as Saturday but if Bridge is 60% fit I'd play him before Garrido.
