How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Bit of a North South divide discovered here - currently in Bournemouth on a break - the North where I am is nowhere near as affected as the South here where I am- many eateries closed due to lack of staff even on a B/H Monday - many many places used to be staffed by EU citizens - a few chippies not frying every day according to notices in the windows though they blame that on costs many with the Don't Pay message on them - so many places from chains like B&M to local shops with signs up looking for staff and funnily enough more gaps on shelves in the supermarket than I see at home - several cars driven by older people with stickers in ( pre-printed so probably bought on line or printed off on line ) with UKP and F*CK THE EU as its message - I think the Brexit rot is starting here tbh

The latest missive from UK Fisheries is a classic of how we got into this mess. Firstly, I googled the author to make sure it wasn’t a parody, so, yes Sir Barney White-Spunner is a real person. Secondly, he is bemoaning that fishing sectors got shafted by Brexit - basically, the Norwegians took advantage by stiffing us.

So, far, a typical tale, yet his (simple) solution is ‘use the UK’s trade muscle as an independent coastal state to return our quotas with Norway, Greenland and other traditional partners to what they recently were – or even better.’

Quite why no thought of this is baffling to White-Spunner. Clearly, the notion that Norway exerted their own trade muscle with respect to fish in their coastal waters is one that would never occur to White-Spunner. Other countries doing deals that favour them and not the UK is an intolerable affront that must be rectified immediately.

Anyway, welcome to the real world, Sir Barney, where other countries also have ‘muscle’.

It always seemed to be the attitude post brexit that when we talked of the trade deals we were going to strike, it would be as simple as pointing out that we were British, and as a result Johnny Foreigner would fall at our feet with gratitude that we were giving them the opportunity.
Fishing is still being held up as totemic to this country.
It apparently contributes less to GDP than Harrods.

Is this one?

My eldest lad is in France on holiday just now and text me to say he had found a Brexit benefit. Seemingly all previous speeding tickets for U.K. residents, issued in France before Brexit (he had a good few unpaid), are no longer passed to the U.K. for enforcement.

he just needs to make sure he isn’t arrested on this trip.

Its exceptionalism - many still believe in it - they are baffled why the only German car company galloping over the horizon to dear old Blighty are Audi coz they are able to replace UK built Jags and take that profit back into the EU - then again their image of a Jag is still the one driven by Morse
