How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Unfortunately the "Referendum" should have taken place before "Maastricht Treaty" was signed in 1993.
Simple as and unfortunately this led to division in the Tory Party, and to Brexit in 2016.

Even in 1975 when we had a referendum on the "Common Market" it was "to leave" and "not to join", as we were already in.

Ted Heath lied to the public, and made a fortune out of it.

Fast forward to the present time.

The landscape of the World has been reset with Trump in the Oval office and Putins invasion of Ukraine.

In my opinion we have to move closer to Europe and be less dependant on the USA.

Logic says we rejoin, but with Starmer being inept, the fear is Farage and his cronnies seize power, and then.....well we'll all be in unchartered waters.

As always this is just my opinion:-)

Once again a shit show caused by the Tories was resolved by Labour . Heath should've held a referendum as it was a constitutional change .... but didn't,

Wilson corrected the shit show by holding a vote .

Sometimes I get the impression a lot of people are still cross about that vote in 2016 going the wrong way. Next year will be 2026 - a while decade of being cross on the internet and on average we only live for just over 7.5 decades. True dedication - maybe we should have a nother referendum.

The war of the roses is still a touchy subject, so don't expect the brexit vote result to go awaý any time soon.
I'm still pissed off about the Romans coming over here building roads and walls. The start of deforestation in England
And as for the Norwegians and their shitty long boats!

Always worth a watch.......

How perceptive

She is a brilliant investigative reporter. Farage and his cronies breaking the law to influence voters-what a surprise. But at least voters, especially those in the likes of South Wales, wouldn't be quite so gullible or stupid as to be taken in again by the same load of grifters, even if they were just “lending” Reform their vote in search of another range of sunny uplands.

P.S. also don't mention muffin or barm.......
Bought a smile to my face after reading the politics thread. I once offered the view point that actually it was ‘an oven cooked batch’. Fookin’ ell, didn’t dare come on here for days.

Apparently a privately educated millionaire businessman named Nigel, last name Farage ( there is no way to say that without acknowledging its inherent poshness unless you pronounce it garage in our northern in way?) professional shit stirring grifter is a "man of the people". Incredible. Granted, the survey they conducted here was not amongst members of Mensa, but this is how he is viewed. Bonkers

To be fair, if people are so disaffected with their fill then you can understand why they turn to the likes of Reform. OK, there will be those that would naturally lean, the old NF/BNP/UKIP type, but there are now many more who feel left out by many of the parties.

For the good of the people, and the country, I do hope that we pull ourselves around and ensure that we cater for all. Reform will not do this, and however they want to phrase it, they will not be looking after those that need it most.
