How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Article about part of Durham that has been in decline since the pits closed

They, along with many other communities that prospered due to their industry, and have fallen by the wayside for over 30 years, with not much hope of finding replacement employment+money for the reason they were there in the 1st place, sadly. "Surviving" on money put in, hoping that some magic wand or change of direction will fix the problems.

The part of this article that caught my eye was:

I've also seen this played out across many deprived areas - with signs saying approx 'Regeneration sponsored by the EU'...

Voting to slash your own barely surviving money by 50% is not a healthy plan.

The article then goes on to mention that those same people are now flocking to Reform, as another hoped for magic wand, after the 1st one (brexit) failed to delivery the riches 'promised' by UKIP aka Reform.

It's unbeliveably sad that people are willing to let a leopard eat their face for a 2nd time.
They are blaming 'Labour' for not waving a magic wand to create impossible jobs, understandably, and ignoring the past modern performance of Conservative/UKIP/Reform policies that for decades just don't give a crap about them.

A very hard position for them, but repeating the same thing again (brexit, reform), is never the way forward. :-(

South Wales is the same

I remember driving by an ex pit town in Nottinghamshire, and clocked a 'Supported by funds from EU' sign, long before brexit referendum. They voted brexit.
There's a plaque on Mansfield Woodhouse station which says; "This station was built by Railtrack with support from the EU regional development support funding"

There's also one at Havenhouse which is deep in the heart of Faragestan (Lincolnshire)

I await , unfortunately, the likely future coming of signs, plaques and monuments all paying tribute to Farage for doing nowt for these communities, other than going all Trump cult and needing to show self validation at every turn, despite doing nothing material for them.

Turkeys voting for the promise of a magical Christmas. Again.

It's quite a guilty pleasure seeing those that voted for Brexit now reaping what they were warned about. Stupid lemmings
That’s very harsh on industries like farming and fishing. They were massively hampered by the EU, many small fishing businesses went bust due to the EU’s operations, over decades.

Is it their fault that we didn’t do a good enough job to show them that leaving the EU would be even worse, for those that had kept going in the industry?

I blame the appalling Remain campaign more than these hard working people just trying to keep their business going and looking around for better ways to operate in the face of EU rules that made it extremely difficult for them, than blaming them for voting Leave.

It was a perfect storm of Remain naivety and Leave lies, and a population fed up of (overblown) immigration issues, and other stuff I guess.

Wasn't it Merthyr Tydfil where they interviewed someone advocating Brexit in front of the new leisure centre with the EU funding logo?

Wow... not me guv!

North West Tonight had a Brexiteer businessman with a sheaf of EU regulatory forms to fill in who somehow seemed to think that if we left we wouldn't have to fill in forms to export to the EU.

Businesses, fisheries, farming.... You really can't blame opponents of Brexit for not being believed.

Some are so blind. Now blaming a failed brexit on successive govns rather than the notion of brexit itself. None so blind.
In the last 10 years we’ve had 6 PMs, before that we had 6 in 40 years. Obviously a lot of things to contend with in the last 10, but the animosity that Brexit caused will have repercussions for years to come.

Some people still believe in a Magic Brexit, where we would have all the advantages of being in the EU and none of the disadvantages. They seem to think this was deliberately denied to them by politicians and civil servants.

It beggars belief, really, but it shows the power of propaganda.

Wasn’t Brexit sold on all the advantages, and a brilliant NHS with the £350 mil a week that would be pumped into it?

People are now seeing that it was sold on lies with the £350 mil going into the pockets of the filthy rich. Some will always refuse to see it and blame others as they don’t want to believe they voted for the wrong option. Either way, we are a damn lot poorer off and now in a place where because people voted for change, and hasn’t happened, their perception of politics is at an all-time low, baying for change at every decision made.

People don't like admitting they were wrong, still less that they were conned.

The only legitimate argument for Brexit is an arcane one around constitutional matters. It's all about intangibles and involves choosing to be poorer as a nation in exchange for some concept of national purity. And being poorer as a nation leads directly to higher taxes for less, which every fucker moans about.

But But .... don't forget the benefit of racism

I really don’t think the EU was as bad as you suggest. For example a lot of the fishing stuff was British fishermen selling their quota to the EU to retire

The Gibraltar deal - they are piling on Starmer over it when its a nation controlling its borders and protecting its sovereignty - something you'd think they would support - however it takes the FM of Gibraltar to put them right on the detail and confirm Gibratar is ok with it.

And British fishing fleet still overfishing
(Waitrose have taken mackerel off the menu)

One of the leading bushitters about Brexit, Jacob Reese Mogg, after the vote to leave he so desperately wanted came to fruition, said it may take 50 years to recover from the decision.

He personally profitted to the tune of £6M by shorting the pound before the vote, and the leading financier of the leave campaign pocketed nearly £170M from the same action.

I'm sure they're very comfortable with the decisions they made for the benefit the whole country!
