How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Zhou Enlai was supposed to have answered “it’s to early to say” when asked about the French revolution’s legacy.
I feel the same about Brexit. All the arguments are based on short term economics, which hardly tells the story. The true assessment would require a comparison of where we actually end up in say 10 or 20 years with where you think we would have ended up inside the EU. The future scope of QMV, the clash between Napoleonic codes and Common law, (as illustrated by the NI Protocol), the future of the defence of Europe etc would all need to be assessed. In geo political terms, the EU vision is of a third force between The US on the one hand and China/Russia and others on the other. The outcome of the Ukrainian war may make that vision obsolete already. Has this war strengthened NATO, as the Germans and the British want or has it weakened NATO as the French desire? Will such as the Baltic states be happy with EU as the third force?
I merely pose these questions, but I am sure that short term economic results is a minor part of the conundrum.
”Its too soon to tell”.

Thing is, we can’t get better trade deals than we had in the EU with countries that already have trade deals with the EU.

At some point we will have to apply tariffs, which will make imports far more expensive, or we go back into the single market.

We've decided to become insular in a time where globalism has taken over. We don’t have the ability to feed ourselves nor do we have the skills to make enough stuff.

We also haven’t had a visionary PM for a very long time, so short term ism simply puts a plaster over the wounds caused to stem the bleeding. Sadly, the wound seems to be getting bigger.

It’s quite telling that no one in government can come up with a plan to get us out of the tailspin we are in. All they want to do is hide the figures displaying the tail spin.

We'll see
Careful what you wish for.
Can’t see it in my lifetime.
Scotland jumping ship might speed things up a bit…..
But currently the plan seems to be to create division again.
That’s what I mean by ‘United’.
Whatever shape a 32 county Ireland would currently take, I would see it being far from United.

Seems the UK will exit the European University Institute scheme, thereby striking another blow for our glorious isolation. We are still out of Horizon R&D scheme, last time I looked.

Yet more Brexit benefits :)
Horizon is EU bargaining chip, not part of Brexit. EU was supposed to pass regs to keep us in but the French keep delaying.

Hmmmm
As things stand at the mo, the bombs go off in Dublin the day there is a united Ireland. Remember the old Irish prayer:
Lord, give us Irish unity, but not yet.
In the current impasse US simply won’t acknowledge this, they think it’s scaremongering. Nor do they understand that UK has no say in NI status, which is reserved for the people of NI.
I can’t see NI Authorities trying too hard to catch unionist terrorists post unity.

The European University Institute isn’t really part of Brexit either.

We want in on Horizon. But entry is being denied because we are on the naughty step.

I love the smell of ‘taking back control’ first thing in the morning :)

Love it. Anything goes wrong at work I can just blame brexit.

Apart from that it's fucking shit. Significantly and directly impacted on my life in a very negative way.

Stay safe, pal.

This will happen to so many, we need to support each other at this time.

I'd rather see a province based system tbh.

Interesting.
It’s going to take some planning from all concerned down south before they can put it to us.

Certainly whether it’s Feel and Fail, Fine Girl, or the Shinners coming canvassing to my door, I’ll want to hear a well thought out manifesto regarding the North before they get my blessing.

Canvassing? Did I say canvassing? Can’t remember the last time any of them darkened my doorstep.

Yes - its clearly very difficult now to live or work in Europe. Hope we can get back in by the time i retire.

I think secretly the DUP see it as beneficial.
They can use the Protocol, which they agreed to, as a way of holding up the assembly so they don’t have to go in with Michelle being the first minister.
They keep their influence with the Tories or so they think and possibly could get changes that essentially would bring down the GFA.
Then we could all go back to square one.
Job done.

Who said nobody benefits from Brexit.
