How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

What I don’t understand is why in England it’s still accepted that the pain has to be suffered for a further decade before anything can be done about it. If the next two years continue in this vein and stagnation becomes endemic, Labour would be foolish not to revisit the subject and seek a closer relationship with the EU from the off.

He said it as a positive as well. These people are allowed to breed and mix with others...

If they were, then they were simply parroting Rees-Mogg, who speculated that the benefits of Brexit would not be visible for fifty years. This is the same Rees-Mogg, of course, who last week chastised the BBC for speculating.

Quite probably, but xenophobia, like poverty, does not die out from one generation to the next. Better to tackle the roots of both and be honest with people. Allowing both to worsen is much unhealthier.

This is true, but leopards don't change their spots. People aged over 50 and that aren't lifelong learners, and that's a deliberate understatement, aren't going to be persuaded differently.

Xenophobia won't die out but it either diminishes or grows, like smoking cigarettes or heavy drinking habits subsequent generations are less likely to engage in it.

They’re more likely to engage in it if the country erects barriers to prevent people from coming, and prevents its own people from having the opportunity of living and working in countries nearby. Brexit isn’t just economically but also socially damaging, alas.

well any of them who have a time share or a holiday home or have been fortunate enough to travel into the EU a lot will be finding issues. Add on's are they have to bin that sarnie they made before they set off and going forward will face problems bringing souvenirs back with them. Then next year bio security measures are coming - finger prints etc - pennies will be dropping.

In terms of homes abroad ironically I'd expect that a lot of the owners live in the South of England are affluent and very pro-Brexit................ going to be interesting to see how long they can remain in self denial whilst explaining to Derek and Beryl from the bowls club that they can't spend Jan - March on the Costa in their holiday home because they have "used up their days"

Absolutely most who voted leave didn't realise their second home in the south of France was at risk.

Free movement to Geneva isn't an option said bill arkwright from Burnley? Well I never.
