How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

but no political party wants to rejoin.
No political party wants to reopen a damaging debate about Brexit because it would be a huge distraction.
There will be a slow reintegration with the EU to limit the ongoing damage to trade and international relations but the question of re-joining won't be touched because there is still a large section of the population who are blind to the damage being caused by Brexit and are blaming our current difficulties on ABB even when the evidence is incontrovertible that Brexit is making problems caused by the pandemic and war in Ukraine worse for us than it is for nearly every other country.

Oh come on, this was the sort of crap that won the vote.
It might just be that 'the sort of crap' just had a bit more credence with the leavers, not all of whom were swivel-eyed zenophobics, and it might just have had some 'actuality'! I can't believe that there is a remainer who was wholly in thrall of everything that the EU stood for, and what chance had they of changing the course of the EU by one degree?

Unless you’re going for the Singapore-on-Thames model on steroids, and there doesn’t appear to be the appetite for that, neither in the country nor, I’d hazard, even in the Conservative Party, then anything else is but a painful fudge. The Conservative Party is glacially coming to its senses, at least in some quarter, and I suspect that there will be gradual rapprochement with the EU in the next two years, which should then set the course for the next government to follow.
Let’s hope our terminal moraine is as close as possible to the sunlit uplands.

What evidence?

Exactly. The brexit debate is 100% toxic. Labour voters are circa 80% pro EU - possibly more than that now. But at the same time most get why its not a central policy. Labour will win power with minimal debate around brexit. But once in power the realignment will begin and you can guarantee that our economic position will improve.

Then the pressure will shift on to tories re do they make another issue out of brexit given the damage they have done with it.

Most brexit supporters are too embarrassed to post on here. If you can't see its a disaster then you have no hope.

Hahahahaha, provide evidence about how all area's of commerce have suffered since we extracted ourselves form the EU?

Some people are stuck in 2016. Having this debate again is totally moot and will get you nowhere because they cannot see the negative sides of Brexit as it’s quasi-religious to them.
My days of being nice about “misinformation” Etc went behind me with Truss. These people are morons.

The negative side is pretty clear. We are excluded from a whole range of activities, the carry on at Dover, the fuckin' paperwork now involved. And, I suppose. there will be future negatives yet to manifest themselves. Just hope that one of them isn't that the UK Gov, the FA put a quota on players from the EU, or vice versa! I think it might be the kind of thing that Tebas and his ilk might attempt to squeeze onto the agenda!

The one you are conversing with this morning is quite a nasty Brexit bot. He doesn’t listen to any evidence, will just try and discredit any source that you use and call you names.

He’s best ignored.

It seems you are still aligned with the EU cult, as you can't seem to understand that your view is a minority one.

if the tories came out and said they will rejoin but Labour were against would you vote tory in a GE
It‘s a decent and fair question.

If I thought they would implement it, and had a genuine prospect of winning, then I think I probably would, yes. It would mean they’d significantly moved to the centre ground.

Although tbf my politics are pretty middle of the road, and if anything, I’m probably closer to a statist, one-nation, post-war consensus Conservative than anything else. I’ve never voted Tory in my life because the party has been hijacked by xenophobes since I could first vote in 1988.

I greatly wish the pivot of politics would shift to the left, in general terms. I think unfettered capitalism is destroying the planet.

Think I’ll vote Green in 2025.

The footballing aspect was talked about on here, but not to much extent. The EU can’t impose quotas upon us, but our government can. It would fall into the category of “Why do we need migrants to do the job British people can do?”

I doubt it would ever actually happen though as the PL is one of the country’s biggest success stories and money spinner.

The biggest issue is clubs being unable to buy EU players under the age of 18.
