How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

The steady long-term decline has continued unabated. Perhaps Brexit was just irrelevant. We are being distracted while the ship goes down.

We are continually shopping from the catalogue on the drip granny is getting on needs a new hip, can't remember her family and has no money to pay for her care. Dad is exhausted from working his whole life and can't contemplate a break till he's 67, he knows he should take the prostate test he seen it on the Telly. The GP has entered the Bermuda triangle and like half of GPs don't offer the test anyhow.
Mum works, looks after the house and budget, microwave and frozen food are the norm, kids only seem to be interested in popcorn chicken anyhow. Girl is on the spectrum but the school hasn't the resources. Tte lad gets bullied on social media, police don't seem interested.

It's like there just isn't enough resources or money under this system anymore but no one is talking about it. It's all Trump, brexit, boats and the blame game.

Sometimes every path you take leads you to the same place or some people don't want you to go down the right one. They can't fleece you for using that one yet. They tell you it ends at a cliffs edge. No one seems willing to take the chance.

This post is great.

As an inveterate Remainer, and someone who is still angry at this folly, I feel I’m well placed to make the following comment: we need to change the name of this thread.

It could be construed as provocative. And egregiously subjective.

It’s happened, it’s not going to be reversed anytime soon, and we have to make the most of it.

Serious respect for that suggestion

Indeed, it has happened and there is no chance of it being undone in our lifetimes

It would be a positive thing for people to be able to discuss the options and opportunities to - make the most of it.

The thread has become an echo chamber for a group of posters to confirm to themselves that they were right and they continue to slag off anyone that voted Leave - Leave voters tend not to bother posting

It is telling though that my post is the first since your positive suggestion

That perhaps indicates that regular posters are not willing to move towards acceptance?

Would be good though if people could take up your suggestion

I can only speak from personal experience but no amount of graphs and arguments about those graphs will alter the fact that Brexit has made my job harder and more time consuming, and I'm sure I'm far from the only one who shares that experience. When exporting to EU countries these days, we have to produce more paperwork for customs purposes. Not only that, one of our best customers in France won't accept UK origin material. They've stressed that it's nothing to do with the integrity of the material and everything to do with it being a ballache getting it through customs at their end so it's simply easier for them to ask us to supply EU origin material. This is yet another thing we have to bear in mind. And it's going to get worse - with the introduction of CBAM in 2027, this could impact UK-EU trade further because as things stand at the moment there are differences between UK CBAM and EU CBAM.

That's not to mention the 16% tariff I got slapped with when buying 2 pairs of trainers from a store in Dusseldorf last week.

For me, Brexit has proved to be a shitshow with literally no upsides but plenty of downsides and that's coming from someone who voted for it

wins just keep coming

Well - I guess that you are certainly one poster that nobody would have thought would embrace GDM's idea of accepting the reality of here and now and considering how to make the most of having left the EU. You seem a long way from being able to move onto acceptance.

But, I would point out that your slavish trawling of X to find Brexit bashing topics is getting increasingly desperate.

This example for instance..........

This isn't really an issue of Brexit - just another example of the incompetence of the Johnson government in managing leaving the EU.

Anyway, should you not be celebrating this news - it is a result of an agreement with the EU to streamline and/or remove many checks

Agree with GDMs post but in response to your comments about this being an echo chamber, this is mostly explained by supporters of Brexit being unable to front up for contributing to the long term harm of this country. The fact that Brexit voters seemingly shrug their shoulders and blame others is is pitiful.

I'm sure we would all welcome more Leavers to the debate. Maybe then, instead of us grumbling about the evident downsides of leaving we will all be enlightened by some genuine benefits that you and the other Leavers can tell us all about. After all 52% outnumbers 48% so eventually the Leavers will be the majority once they see how many benefits there are actually are and they will gain confidence in posting.

if you shit on your own front doorstep you clean it up - some its seems would just leave it there and start using the back door instead

I embrace GDMs idea of making the best of Brexit. To do that thgough it means having as close a relationship with the EU as possible, eventally rejoining a single market and customs union ideally. Getting back our freedom of movement and making trade easy. That's not what you mean by it though and not the reason you supported the wrecking ball of Brexit in he first place, under a different name.

If you say so - but that you make those 2 comments I would suggest (certainly IMO) just reinforces that I am right in what I say.

So your idea of making the most of brexit as a remainer is to pretty much be back in the EU.

Heal thyself:-)

To be fair my idea isn’t my idea, Farage wanted to be like Norway, the tories wanted free trade from Iceland to Russia. But yes the closer we can get to what we had the better it will be.Which over the years we will edge slowly towards and have started that process, though could be quicker So nothing to heal.

Which is basically what I said, I'm not sure however it's gonna change the never ending boo hoo no fair nature of this endlessly repetitive thread.
