So you’re discounting Laporte ?Catastrophic and has been for years. Our last genuine world class player was KDB. Poor recruitment has been a long standing problem.

Laporte is a good player but I wouldn’t consider him world class yet. He has severely disappointed in the CL twice, and played a large part in our elimination. If he can bring his performance in those games, he will be world class.
I know people are having a knee-jerk reaction from the last game's embarrassment. But I actually think our window has been solid. If we've not had half the injuries we're dealing with and a had proper pre-season, we wouldn't be as depleted.
Dias and Ake are both young and exciting CBs who would battle an already competent Laporte and a resurging Stones. And Torres just might be the most underrated signing of this window. Sure he started out slow, but we all know he's quality.
A resurging Stones? He's had one half decent game against Wolves. Agree on other points but I consider Stones an absolute write off.

Ake and Dias hopefully good defensive signings, very much needed. I like the look of Ake already.
Torres I'm not sure, needs more games and time to settle.
What we really, desperately need is some pace in attack, a fast and direct winger like we lost with Sané going. I wish more than any other player we'd do whatever it took to sign Sancho.
Could do with a powerful, aggressive defensive midfielder with lots of energy too. Someone quick to close down opponents and give the defence more protection.

We need to stop fucking about and understand that we do need a new LB - we dont have to spend umpteen millions on one. Is there not a decent player who could flourish with Pep from the lower division ?
We need a box to box midfielder and we definately need to get a striker as kun is nearing the end, he gas already cemented his legend status of that there is no doubt. But we cannot rely on him to be injury free all the way through a season especially at the business end of the CL (if we get there). That is unfair on him

Piss poor. We have this habit of starting a summer strongly before absolutely dithering. It's criminal to go into a new season with only Ake and Torres as new signings.
I think we’ve done amazing so far. Two high quality centrebacks and an attacker who will only get better.
However, I think changing leftback is crucial as we’d address all problems across the backline. It’s necessary to get the maximum impact of Dias and Aké. I’ve been hoping for Mendy for three years now but he looks gone. Can’t go another season with him and Zinchenko.
I don’t feel the pressing need of a box-to-box / defensive midfielder. Fernandinho have legs for another year and it’s way too early to give up on Rodri. Aké could also play there.

Ake is a decent enough squad signing but for me, nothing more...yet. He has a lot to prove and with our current defensive issues, not a lot of time to do it. I certainly don't see a worldy with him, never have. What I am hoping is that if he has a worldy alongside him, it might elevate his levels.
In the limited time we have seen Torres, my impressions are that he will probably need a significant amount of game time to get even remotely up to speed, so I am kinda writing the guy off for half a season. We have been in such a strong position previously, that writing a new signing off for a while has been fine because others were there to pick up the slack. I fear we aren't currently in that position of strength.
That leaves Dias and for me, it is all about him. If he turns out to be quality and he and Laporte can build a solid partnership, there is no reason why we can't challenge for the title. If he turns out like most of our recent CD purchases, then we are in a tough top 4 battle.
Given how last season went, to be in a position where we are effectively relying on one purchase to define our season, I think it has to go down as a poor transfer window.
