How far back in time do your City memories go.

I lived in Collyhurst when I was a kid and went to St Patricks school, which in case you did'nt know was the biggest red school in Manchester attended by Nobby Stiles, Brian kidd etc. In fact when I was about 7 I had only heard City mentioned a couple of times, It was utd this utd that!

Then one day at the bus stop I was stood behind a bloke who was wearing a coat with all thngs Man City written on it. Johny Crossan, Nelly Young, etc. He turned around and saw I was reading it and he asked me was I City or Utd. I really did'nt support anyone at that point, so i just said City. That incident created my interest in City and a year later went to my first game at maine rd against Derby county, its abit hazy now, think we won 1-0, and have been hooked ever since.

Standing on my little fold up stool (not that type!!) in the Platt Lane end (when there was no seating), right up against the wall just to the right of goals. I remember Bert Trautman picking the ball out of his net, kicking it back towards the half way line and it hitting the ref in the back. Bert got sent off that.

and the referee asked Bert for his name! He replied Stanley Matthews, that was the story at the time.
My earliest memory was a game v Newcastle in 69 I think.I used to go in Platt Lane and my parents went in Main Stand(kids had no recessions on a match day in Main Stand)Platt Lane was full and turnstiles closed(30p)so asked this bloke how do I get in.He said follow me and so went down that alleyway to the Kippax(25p)and couldnt see a thing at the back of the stand.I remember like it was yesterday, stood there, back of peoples heads in front. I was 9,and to this day I still find it hard to believe my parents let me go on my own into the ground, obviously very trustworthy City fans.

-- Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:33 pm --

Since M.A broke my heart as a young boy when I returned from the annual 3 week trip in Eire and he had sold Owen and Barnes. I cried and could not understand it no matter how much my Father tried to console me even though he is red. Then we went and bought Steve Kinsey 1.5 m. How much is that in todays money?

Can't remember my first game my Grandad worked on the turnstiles and we watched the 2nd half of each match.

I stand corrected I did post this at daft o'clock this morning with umpteen pints in me, still no excuse.

I have a lot of respect for blues who actually chose City. I had no real say in the matter. My Dad was a blue and he was pretty determined that me and my brother be nothing else. He chose City himself. His Dad wasn't into football so he had to pick one, and he still has never managed to explain why he chose City over the rags. Nonetheless I feel like I've earned my stripes independently. I had to go to school where there were no other City fans (at the start, I have a City convert on my record!) but plenty of plastic rag bastards (to this day I have never personally met a match-going rag, no word of a lie) at a time when we were at our lowest and they were winning trophies for fun. To be a City fan in that environment was not easy and I didn't even keep my head down about it. I was proud and I'd always argue the toss (even a fight once) defending City's honour. I did presentations on City for my English GCSE speaking and wore my City shirt on non-uniform day.

Mine was against Ipswich in the late 80's, not too sure of the exact year though. I'm not too good at this memory thing as I think we got beat 1-0.
My dad took me and we got tickets to sit in the North Stand. We were around row 3 and had a worms eye view of the action (or lack of it).
The only thing I can definitely remember is two old dears knitting through the entire game.

April 1955. Going to Lewis's in Manchester with my mother and meeting members of the team who would play against Newcastle in the FA Cup final. Bert Trautman, Dave Ewing, Roy Clarke, Don Revie, Paddy Fagan, Joe Hayes and Jimmy Meadows.

A mate of my mum took me to Maine Rd to watch us play Wolves. George Berry was playing at the time and we beat them 4-0. The friend was a Wolves fan i just remember laughing my head off at him every time we scored.
