How good was Yaya?!

huge part of starting the success, big goals in FA Cup SF & Final, big goals in 2011/12 season and incredible during 2013/14 maybe should have won POTY, unfortunately didn't do it on the big stage in Europe for me against big teams but in doubt a City great

Different opinions not for you then. What was I thinking how outlandish to think Bell, Silva and KDB were greater City players than Toure, probably just me then.
The reality of the matter is that Toure would take the measure of all three of those great players in a direct match up...

Not reality your opinion, mine is I'd take Silva and KDB over Toure, if was forced to pick 2 from the 3 PL era players.

Wonderful player, when he was at his best it was like watching men against boys. We tended to get bullied when he wasn't playing and his swashbuckling style aided the players around him to do their job.
Arguably our most important signing of the early modern era along with Aguero, Silva and Kompany.

I would how would you know which 2 I'd pick are you a mind reader, not bothered that your opinion is different, no right no wrong.

All opinions. We're just a load of punters with different views on all things City.

I'd pick Yaya, Colin Bell, and David Silva over any other City player. I'm right as far as I'm concerned.

Your pick would be right as far as you're concerned, so all's well

Toure scored just one goal in KO CL games for Barca and City combined (vs Kyiv) and 0 goals after the last 16.

That's poor for a player supposed to be better than KDB.

Bernardo has done a lot more vs the biggest teams (4 goals vs Madrid alone). Even Rodri, playing 30 yards deeper than Yaya, scored crucial CL goals.

The argument that if you put Yaya against other City legends 1 vs 1 he will get the better of them is simplistic. It's a team sport. The question is, would player X contribute more than player Y? And the clear answer is that KDB has done it at the biggest stage, vs the best teams in Europe, whereas Yaya hasn't (if one doesn't count his appearance as a CB in a CL final due to injuries to first-choice defenders).

On his day Yaya was an unstoppable force. Unbelievable technique for someone his size and he had such strength and such a big backside that you couldn't get the ball off him.
Defensively he wasn't great and would leave runners and would amble back in transition
But he was a scorer of big goals in big games. However, as he got older, the negative side of his game became greater than his positives.

Comparison with KDB is a bit unfair, as Yaya played in an inferior side.

If I was picking a team and I had to choose, KDB > Silva > Yaya. But Yaya's best was probably more impactful than Silva's and KDBs. But KDB and Silva produced their best far more often

It's difficult the measure one's best, but if we go only by games against our biggest rivals in England and Europe, Bernardo is more impactful than both Yaya and Silva.

CL quarters and semis: Bernardo 5 goals, Yaya 0 goals, David 0 at City (1 at Valencia).

Anfield and Old Trafford: Bernardo 5, Yaya 2, David Silva 3

So, against the very best teams and at the most difficult grounds Bernardo has outperformed both Yaya and David Silva: as many goals at Anfield and OT as Yaya and David combined, and 5 times more goals in CL quarters and semis than Yaya and David combined.

If one measures the best in performances against the best teams or at the most difficult grounds, Bernardo is better than them both. Add to that that Bernardo's work rate off the ball is superior to theirs.

Even if Bernardo isn't better at his very best than them (because football is more than goals and working off the ball), he's much closer to them than many realise.

For me, If Pep is offered one from Bernardo (or Gundo) and Yaya, he goes with Bernardo every day of the week.

Maybe a thread is needed: how good was prime Bernardo?

Edit: KDB 9 (!) CL goals (quarters to final). No contest.

Not an argument just an opinion...

It's always difficult to compare players across eras and also those who play in different postions. So it's purely based on opinion. Not really a fair comparison just looking at the goals. Plus Bernardo has played in such a superior and consistent team compared with Yaya and Silva. But completely agree that prime Bernardo is up there with our best

To some degree Bernardo respect suffers from him being so versatile, which I think a lot of those types of players suffer from. Not many players can play left back, central midfield and winger and peform them as well as Bernardo
