How good were Pink Floyd?

I love Pink Floyd and i love The Smiths, what does that make me?! I also call it a muffin.

Emerson Lake and Palmer early stuff for me.
Loved their mix of classical, jazz plus pioneering synthesiser work by Emerson.
Not everyone's cup of tea I know but I liked them. Sad two of them are now passed away.

Saw them at Manchester uni in about 1968. Thought they were brilliant then with the coloured oil/water sandwich slides projected onto the wall and them. Today with digital stuff that effect looks so dated.

Syd Barratt era they were outstanding.

Post Waters they are embarrassing.

Im not really a fan of Waters myself, I mean he's clever ok but I dont like preachy songwriters who tell me how I should think,I like Syds ethereal lyrics, his visions were remarkable as in songs like See Emily Play and Lucifer Sam, what a shame we lost him.

I've tried my hardest to listen to them, and just don't get it. Some good tracks, but that's it for me.
