How long will the rebuild take?

You seem to very conveniently 'overlooked' the wealth of Academy talent that has been sold off without being given a decent chance during Pep's tenure.

Rico Lewis is lightweight and isn't good enough for top level. He's a stopgap at best.

Phil Foden is a shadow if the player he was last season. He ghosts through long periods in games, and really has been a waste of time.

James McAtee is the ultimate 'waste of a shirt'. Not because he isn't a decent player, but because Pep is obviously very reluctant to use him, even when a game is in the bag.

Any young Academy player under Pep Guardiola is virtually destined to be overlooked. Looking at the underwhelming players we brought in last summer (at very great expense), it's greatly concerning to see homegrown talent sitting on tge bench gathering cobwebs while so-called 'top' players struggle to reach 50% of past standards.

Pep shouldn't be anywhere near the rebuild.
Then who should?

Then who should?

The job of finding the bext coach is above my pay grade. I'm just saying it shouldn't go to a man whose only job has involved existing top level squads. He has ZERO experience in building a squad from scratch, and now isn't the time for him to learn.
He's a spent force and beeds a two year break from the game imo.

Mad thing to say after 4 consecutive league titles and a European treble haha.

So the job of finding the best coach is above your pay grade, but seemingly sacking the best coach we've ever had is within your pay grade? That does not make sense. If you have no idea about who will make for a suitable successor then your claims to sack Pep cannot be taken seriously. Providing a name and justification might embolden your argument.

Much of our squad planning is left to the DoF, but assuming you're right that the buck stops with the manager over signings, then answer the following - how is it that Pep was able to win a Treble and the league title last season with a squad that included just one player who was at the club when he arrived?

With all due respect mate, I really don't think you know how football works.

All Guardiola had to do when he arrived was identify those existing players who could or couldn't work in his system. He then replaced the few who couldn't with players who could. It's not rocket science. Football is a simple game.

Over subsequent seasons, all he's had to do is 'tweak' here and there. Obviously, he's been exceptionally successful, thanks to Txiki and himself identifying the right players to fit his system.

The simple fact is that the foundations had already been laid by Mancini and Pellegrini, alongside Gary Cook and Txiki respectively.

The current situation is that the foundations have not been adequately maintained over the past couple of seasons. As such, our succession planning in respect of players like KDB, Gundogan, Bernardo, Mahrez, etc has been very poor.

The rebuild will be a two or three season job, and Pep won't be around to see it through. In the circumstances, unless he plans to stay on at City as DoF in the future, I think it would be wrong for him to be allowed to influence / predetermine his successor's team plans.

A new broom should be allowed to sweep clean.

Wait, so in the 5 windows between now and when his current contract runs out, we shouldn't let him have any say in transfers, but should buy for a future manager we don't even know the name of?

With all due respect mate, I think you're patronising and ungrateful.

So Pep arrived, looked at the squad, decided who to keep, who to ship out and bought players to fit the system. All of those players he inherited were replaced over time. That pretty much sounds like squad-building.

I can't follow the logic of your argument - Pep basically walked into foundations laid by other managers (we finished 4th the season before Pep walked in), but we can't let another manager inherit a team built by Pep? Managers come and go all the time from clubs and many don't get the chance to build teams like Pep and Arteta. You've got Slot and Maresca in the top two in their first seasons in charge. Pellegrini and Conte won the PL in their first seasons in England. Not every manager walks into a building site. In Pep's case, he supposedly inherited Mancini's and Pellegrini's foundations, won the league a few times, eventually replaced all of those players and won the league some more. He has absolutely earned the right to rebuild this team with a new DoF.

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Ignore him.

He can't deal with any loses. He said we wouldn't win anything the year we did the treble.

He overreacts and flaps like a little kid that can't have a cookie.
