Liverpool away next weekend is a HUGE game. Win that and we'd have to drop at least 10 points more than them across 17 games (16 if we beat Burnley). If we lose they only need to gain 4 points, which sounds a lot more achievable considering the fixture pile-up we'll have.

84-86pts will do it.

Possibly less to be honest. That would be 14 wins from 18 from us. Our poor start obviously means this excellent run is still a good first half a season rather than outstanding.

I don't see there being a miraculous change in form for teams. Another might go on a run like ours but you'd expect it to be fairly similar. More at stake, more slip ups. So maybe 80pts is more likely to win the title.

Win our next two and that's a huge step.

Saw on Twitter that the only Blackburn have won the PL with 7 defeats, every other team has been fewer, so it really is back to a 3 horse race or a completely unprecedented season, and it's hard to see United not picking up at least another three over the course of the season. I'm actually of the opinion that for all of the talk of an exciting, absurd season the bottom 3 is the bottom 3 and we are now with a 2 horse race that a city win or draw could settle next weekend.

It's a mirror image of the position we were in when we were chasing. Four points is two draws, and Liverpool are the only other side capable of putting a run together that matches the run we had that season. I personally can't see either side meeting those heights, though, they'll drop more points even if they beat us.

And to add, it's not against the top 6 Liverpool struggle, it's elsewhere.

This point is key in most seasons - but given that we're already in an unprecedented season due to the impact of COVID-19, an anomaly like this wouldn't surprise me.

I can't see City losing 4+ games now, but yeah I wouldn't put money on it. I think draws will be key, which I do think both City and Liverpool will pick up quite a few more.

Were there 42 games that season or had it been reduced by then ?

agree with this. A win for us and it's over, we'd only need 10 more wins and a few draws to win it if that happens. Even a draw would make it extremely hard for Liverpool to win it. Have to beat Burnley first though
