85 will piss it as I've said on a couple of occasions, no team other than City stands a chance of even 80 points for me. Utd and Leicester would need 34 points from 14 games to get to 80, 11 wins and a draw, not happening in 14 games.

I said this to my my mates after the Spurs defeat ..............

I know this probably sounds ridiculous only a week after losing to Spurs but I genuinely think that if we could win our next 8 games on the spin then we'd win the title. For that matter, if Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool or Spurs were to win their next 8 games I think that would do it. I think our points tally last season would probably be enough to win the league this season.
Just noticed this, posted soon after the Spurs defeat. Yeah, winning our next 8 games after that was hopelessly optimistic.
Great shout @liamctid .

So to update my earlier post from this thread:

I personally think we'll be the only team to finish with 80+ points.

That means to finish below 80 points:
City would have to drop 19 points from a possible 45.

United dropping 9 more points from a possible 42.
Leicester dropping 9 more points from a possible 42.
Everton dropping 6 points from a possible 48.
Villa dropping 5 points from a possible 48.
Liverpool dropping 3 points from a possible 42.
Chelsea and West Ham dropping 5 points from a possible 45.
Spurs dropping 2 points from a possible 45.
Leeds dropping 1 point from a possible 48

And then there were 9.

United and Leicester have to get 34 points from 42 remaining to finish on 80.

80 will be enough imo, we should piss this.

We have to play rags and Leicester say we lose both them it makes the point total difference because it’s 6 pointer.

I’ve always thought if we could win these 7 games in February, we could be PL champions.

Burnley A won.
Liverpool A won.
Spurs H won.
Everton A.
Arsenal A.
West Ham H.
United H.

After those games we have Leicester and Villa away, and Chelsea at home. They are our hardest remaining games left.

If we win our next four league games we won’t see a team close to us until August.

This was always my view.. if we can keep this run going into the utd game.. it’s probably over regardless of whether we beat them or not.. I think we would go into that game 12 points clear.. maybe even 13/14.. its too much wriggle room. However if we won our next 4 it would be totally over. Like finished. We could then have an eye on the other competitions.. obviously whilst keeping momentum up.

If you simply reflect form over that last 5 games, we have 15 points, Leicester have 8, United 6.
Extrapolate that forward and we would win the PL title after beating Villa away 17th April. (game week 32) We would have reached 80 points whilst Leicester would be on around 59.

If you take respective total points per game this season then we would be over the line by game week 35 (which is Chelsea home depending on rescheduled games), on 80 points with leicester/United on 67 points.

So one game at a time but barring a significant drop off in performance + a significant uplift in the chasing two performance, looking pretty good.

Great shout @liamctid .
It was indeed a great shout but like @liamctid said, at the time it sounded ridiculous. Not just because of our own stop-start form, but because in this mental season every team had been struggling for consistency. At the time of his post, no team had put together a run of more than 4 league wins on the bounce. I pointed this out myself back in the autumn - can't remember when exactly - and said that if someone could put together a longer winning run (say 7 or 8 games) then that could be the game-changer.

Fast forward to today and we're now on a run of 11 league wins in a row which I never expected from anybody this season. Somewhat incredibly, the next best is still only those 4 wins in a row which has been achieved by several teams (United, Villa, Everton, Arsenal, and West Ham). And Liverpool haven't managed more than 3 league wins on the bounce.

It's not over yet of course, but it will probably need a combination of a huge drop-off in results for us - something close to Liverpool's over recent games but not quite as bad - and someone winning way more than 4 games in a row for us not to win it.

I can't get my head round how we've gone 7 points clear, One minute we were mid-table, next minute were out in front, it happened so quick
loads of games in a very short space of time, the opposite can happen and before you know it we are being swallowed up by the chasing pack, i don't like all this "we just need to win these four games" ect, i can only look at Everton , and the spurs cup final ,and nothing else

We know more than anyother club that it's not over until it's properly over, even then you could never be sure as far as City is concerned. We are the only club in this league that just loves doing it the hardest way possible

the turn around as been amazing not just city form but the rest have dropped like stones
every week somebody drops out of the race ? liverpool are 13 points behind with city having a game in hand also
united and leicester are 7 points behind and also city a game in hand on both of them

midweek game at everton will be the key to the rest waving the white flag ? city win and 10 points gap from the rest
that would give city 4 games in the bank on united and leicester and 6 games in the bank on liverpool

but knowing pep and his one game at a time he would still be look for maximum points of 98 ? even if the rest fall away and get around 82 pep will still want to win all the games left ?

next 5 games are everton away. arsenal away. west ham at home. united at home. fulham away.
my bet is if city win all 5 then the title would be truly over. a gap of 15 to 20 point lead with 8 or 9 game to play

yep the roller coaster ride of manchester

Voted just now... given the abject performance of the rest of the league, 79 points will secure second place in the league. So 76-80 to win (although we'll be well above this).
