A team that throws the FA Cup every year is going to go all guns blazing playing in macedonia on a thursday night?

They wont get out of the group stages.
Winning it might be their only chance of getting into the CL. It's us, United & Chelsea for sure next season, with Leicester & West Ham very much in the running, maybe Spurs with a decent managerial appointment plus hanging onto Kane & Son.

Liverpool throw the domestic cups because it doesn’t earn them any money. All their owner is bothered about is money.

The Europa League prize money is £7.5m for the winners, plus £1m for winning the group and £500k per win. You only get £1.8m for winning the FA Cup and less for the EFL Cup and you’re only talking small tens of thousands for round wins, which is why Liverpool never bother with them.

I could see them trying in the Europa League, and most weeks we’d play the day before them.

I remember in 1995 when the Intertoto was being introduced, thinking typical, just as anyone in the top 10-12 could qualify we were going to miss out.

A whole generation with no European football made it seem very exciting, pity it is tarnished now with too many games and round robin cash cow bore fests.
European competition could be so much better if not for the elite clubs fear of not qualifying for the top UEFA competition. They forced UEFA to create the CL format to all but ensure their seasonal inclusion, & when the likes of City put that under threat, they came with the Superleague to guarantee & enshrine their annual inclusion.

The Europa League Cup with the best of the rest (Real, Barca, Milan, Juve, ManUre, Chelsea, Liverpool, Lyon, Marseille, Dortmund, Leverkuesen, PSV, Benfica etc) would surely be a more enticing prospect than watered down CL groups, & a further watered down Europa League as we currently have.

The elite clubs need to be neutered & removed from the self serving decision making process of serious & fair competition. By having so much power, they've shaped European football to suit themselves rather than the competitive, success based spirit of football.

I wonder how many times this plastic derby has to end in a nil - nil bore draw before it stops getting hyped up to fck?
That will never happen. They were 6th and 8th in the Prem a few years ago but it was getting hyped up like it was a title decider between the two on the last day.

They as a pair and the media use each other for their own “benefit” and that’ll never change.

Not that I understand this “benefit” from the media because the vast majority of football fans despise these two clubs, but the media act like 80% of football fans support either of these two and the rest of football is the other 20%.

Don't be daft. They might rotate a bit, but they would not purposely lose EL matches. They've won the league now, so circumstances have changed a bit in regards to other competitions and how much of a distraction they are seen to be.
And Europa League success next season could be their only route to CL participation the following one.

I will be supporting Man Utd for the day. I don't want Liverpool in the Champions League. That club needs to be destroyed. All in good time.

Supporting is maybe a bit strong, but this. Meaning I fully expect them to roll over and/or fuck it up.

Been thinking recently how much we seem to relish not merely being champions, but being champions while putting United back in their box immediately behind us. ’68, 2012, 2018, now 2021? The only time they got it over on us was the aberration of 2013, which now seems exactly that — an aberration.

What a time to be alive.
So many different variables.
All lead to Citeh champions again.
Love it
This is the best thing about it.
When the final whistle goes, whatever we want to happen, whatever the result, we all are going to be either happy or ecstatic.
It's a win-win game for us.
Let's all relax and enjoy.

I hope it's a draw and that we seal it against Chelsea next week.

I don't want our moment of glory being in any way mentioned in the same breath as these scummy twats.

Are people genuinely thinking that if we win the league today the players are going to go on a bender 3 days before the biggest game of their lives?? Wise up!
Yeah and if any cûnt think these pros would be foolish enough to do something like that or something as bad as break covid lock down rules during a pandemic then they’re craz..... oh.

If we maintain the level of success we’ve had for the last decade for another ten years, things might start to change.

The kids, who are following City now will be adults, and have their own spending power. Also, more and more kids, just getting into football, will latch on to a winning team - City - and so our support will grow, even if it is largely plastic.

The media will therefore have to take notice and give us more credit and the redshirts less.

Hopefully.

We've got... errrr, history.

Liverpool win today is best result. We are champions, utd get beat and Liverpool even with win won't make CL.

Exactly this. Casual fans especially the young are attracted by success. Ask 100 people who their favourite tennis player is and the vast majority will say Federer or Nadal.

We should be looking to tap into this market of latent blues by making games more accessible and affordable and fun for them.
