Tonight has a bit of significance for this thread. If we win with a rested team, then it completely justifies Pep's decision to rotate against Leeds. If we get knocked out, then it raises questions on whether it was the right thing to do.
It was the wrong approach regardless of the result tonight. We should be capable of winning both games with the players available. Wrong lineup against Leeds. Let’s hope he picks the right players tonight. He is human and will make mistakes as we all do. Hopefully against villa he does not make the same error of judgment.

Leeds is done, we move to Dortmund, Chelsea & Villa. Select our best and win them all.

Id say the team has grafted since December to get us into a position where we can put a second string out. There were more than enough opportunities to put that game to bed and it was more on the players out there not doing enough rather than Pep.

This team has earned its position to be where it is now. Think back 2 years ago we were split by 1 point with Liverpool and had to manage a quarter final with Spurs which we ended up losing. He had to go pretty much full strength into every fixture. We are much better shape to progress and still in the hunt for 4 trophies than we were then.

De Bruyne, Diaz, Rodri, Walker all got to put their feet up so should hopefully be flying tonight. He wins this one Leeds will be forgotten and we can concentrate on the fa cup and throwing the kitchen sink at Villa.

“More than enough opportunities to put the game to bed”. We all seen it was not working in the first half. Got a break with the sending off and he still did not make the correct changes. If he had of selected the right players we would have won the game at a canter. This is an occasion were too much rotation cost us points. Mendy, Fern at CB? Sterling? All useless decisions. As I say tho, we took a chance it has proven to be the wrong decision. A win tonight will soften the Leeds defeat but it won’t change the fact pep made the wrong decisions before and during the Leeds game.

3 games in 1 week including 2 major cup games.

There was good justification for what we did - the mistake was not to bring off Fernandinho - 1 point would have been ok.

We played well in the first half, had some good chances to score, Leeds scored with their first attempt. Shit happens.

There's always some chance that the opposition will win, no matter the decisions of the manager. You pretend to know something nobody really knows, namely what would have guaranteed wins both against Leeds and Dortmund. Pep wanted to rest certain players and didn't want to risk other players. We don't know whether he was right, only time may tell. Move on.

It's a perfectly logical decision to rest your best players ahead of a big european game when you're comfortably leading the league and facing a mid-table team. The PL title is in the pocket, 11 points to get in 6 games with an easy run bar Chelsea.

I don't how it's even up to debate.

How many more times does it need explaining that we're going after multiple trophies and we need to manage the squad to perfection. Leeds was a example of a great chance to rotate the squad. It almost paid off but it wasn't to be I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. They'll come a time over the next month where we'll have to play our best team game after game. We are preparing for this period as we need to be on it and this period starts tonight.

This guy gets it, good post.

I hate this small minded sentiment which some fans have picked up. It shows enormous ignorance as to the physical demands currently on players. I hate to break it to you but it isn't 1972 any more. If Pep played the same team twice a week during this of all seasons we wouldn't win a single trophy.
