I've since re-watched Thatcher's, and to be fair it is worse, but only because Thatcher was running at full pelt and therefore there was much more force in the assault.

But in terms of intention, they are identical. In both cases the offending player deliberately whacked his opponent in the face.

I do remember it, and the FA bottled it. I would have told Shearer to go and cukf himself, he was being cited for violent play, and yes, England would need a new CF, but at least we'd get one who kicked the ball in anger and not someone's head. Same with Gerrard - the FA will not do anything to upset anything at the heart of the National team set-up. SWP, a peripheral figure, could be made an example of for the retaliatory kick. Blatant and unashamed corruption.
