How would you assess Rodri's season?

Bayern won the CL final with Martinez starting in Centre midfield alongside Schweinsteiger, there is no need for supreme athleticism in the middle.

Chelsea won the CL final with Gary Cahill and David Luiz at CB, doesn’t mean that we should go out and buy bang average CBs.

Rodri’s lack of pace is a huge problem if he doesn’t have legs alongside him. Unless we sign a LB with the pace of Walker and find a mobile midfield to play in front of him, we will struggle.

Think he has a touch of Javi Martinez about him. Very good positionally and on the ball but far too slow to play in midfield.

Think he could make a cracking CB though.

I think Rodri has done ok but I was really disappointed with his first half performance against Lyon. I forgot he was playing for long periods. It was very Fernando-esque in that he was no where to be found when Lyon were on the attack.

Do you not think there is a reason Kante got moved out of position? Its because he is awful on the ball and doesnt fit the possession based style that Chelsea (especially Sarri at the time) want to be. So many posters on here think pace and mobility is the only thing a midfielder needs but will then go and slag off Henderson and say he is dogshit even though he is exactly the player they are describing that we apparently need!!

Its all about opinions but a bit of pace and mobility wouldnt have gone amiss in our midfield v Lyon;)

Someone who can play CM, LB, CB, on both wings, either tip of a diamond and be quality in every single one of them. Which in turn would allow us to switch to and try out multiple formations... Nah won't happen, it makes too much sense.

Good footballer. Passes forward. Height gives some advantage in the boxes. Done alright this season. Will be better next season.

Nonetheless, not agile enough. Physicality can be a bit lacking as well. Lack of pace. Possible that as he gets better, his reading of the game will help to alleviate or remove some of his weaknesses.

On his performances this season, he is nowhere near good enough. He deserves a settling in season like any other player but that means next season he has to improve significantly. We had a world class CDM, being decent in that role after Fern just doesn't cut the mustard.

Koulibaly’s pace would massively help Rodri IMO.

Record signings shouldn't need someone else's pace to "help" them.

Record signings should be the real fucking deal.
