Huddersfield (A) Post Match Thread

From here to the end of the season it's not about blowing teams away it's about getting three points in the bag.
Not easy on the eye but tough titties.
Gritty win today, players didn't really break sweat and it wasnt nice but I'll take a few more of today's performances if it means regaining the league.

Agree. Just we're a spoilt, with what we are used to watching ;-)

This was so easy a win that it felt like a friendly or practice match. Once the third went in, we just concentrated on not expending any energy, and avoiding injuries.

Still slightly worrying that several players were so poor (especially Walker & KDB) but I think/hope that they'll raise their games when required.

We keep on going

Walker, Gundogan and Otamendi not first team form at the moment but we need the squad depth more than ever now

Mariner is a joke not just the pen decision but only gave us any protection from naughty challenges when game was won

Hope we don’t get him too much more
Thought Nico was ok.

Far from our first below par performance of late. Last 25 minutes of the 1st half were as bad as we’ve played all season. Walker was an accident waiting to happen, Gundogan gave the ball way incessantly, and KDB looked every inch someone who hasn’t played in months. Even Ferna gave away sloppy possession more than once. If Pep tore them a new one at half time they all fucking deserved it. Much better for the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, and coasted thereafter
Don’t think he did or does much as Sane said he gives them solutions and they usually work.

Far better second half and those two quick fire goals killed the game completely, just need to keep tabs with the scousers and wait and hope they slip up as for the non penalty I honestly would love to know how the ref seen that as nothing along with the linesman it’s not even incompetence it’s cheating by not awarding a pen according to the laws of the game ...

Fucking Marriner. A City player would need to be butchered like Rob Stark at the Red Wedding before that cnut gave us a penalty.

Great result. Poor performance, especially first half, but all that matters is the three points.

Cracking goals from Raheem and Leroy and a lovely cushioned header from Sergio to set up Sané's. Also, it was great to see Kevin play the full 90 minutes.

MotM: Leroy.

KDB needs a handful of games under his belt, Walker probably wouldnt be playing if we had a left back, maybe when Mendy is back Danilo will get some games at right back.

Walker is really beginning to worry me now...two examples from the game. Could have been sent off with a stupid tackle and in the last minute the winger just strolled past him when they almost scored. Against the top teams in the CL he will have to dramatically improve his performances.
I’ve never rated him as a footballer. Wasn’t that pleased when we signed him as I always thought we exploited him when we played Spurs.

His athleticism really surprised me last season though and it highlighted how we’d just had a load of old men playing at full back for us for far too long before him (same for Mendy on the other side).

Walker’s pace, strength and his short passing get him in our team. But anytime he has to think about anything or cross the ball his deficiencies are highlighted massively. His concentration flits in and out very often as well. But his athleticism gets him out of many situations to make up for those deficiencies so it ends up not really being a problem.

We can't afford to play like we did first half, full stop, imo.

This was probably the only team who wouldn't take advantage & last season, even they would have made us pay, possibly today if Mooy had played.
Agreed, when we are at our worst we seem to let teams playing badly drag us down to a sloppy walking pace. Gundogan is probably the most susceptible to this and if the other team then steps it up even a bit we struggle to get back up to speed.

Luckily Huddersfield are genuinely shit and have no higher gear to step up to

Probably comes naturally.

But tbf it's so tight on replay that the lino got it right, well actually got it right by not guessing, as Sterling was blocking his vision so he couldn't give it without cheating.
What I also noticed is that marriner was so far behind to come to conclusion that the tackle was inch perfect but not to sure about the Lino’s position but I’m positive he was keeping up with Raza pace.

Exactly right
