He bought Bellamy for the following reasons

1 - He was available

2 - He is better than our other striking options

3 - He would come to City

4 - Premier league experienced

5 - Hughes knows him as a player

No big conspiracy, I doubt Bellamy was the man Hughes wanted above all else but he was available, we needed someone so we bought him.

I was no fan of Bellamy prior to his move to COMS but his performances and goals suggested he was a good buy.

I know he's injury prone etc but his recent injury is not a recurrence of an old one so it's harsh to blame Hughes for being short sighted on this front. Shit happens.

There's a bit more to it than that. Hughes directly commented at the time about Bellamy having an influence in the dressing room, I remember finding his comments embarassing tbh.

Why embarrassing? If you knew anything about the way Hughes likes to work, you would know that he has a core of senior players that will effectively maintain discipline in the dressing room and deal with anyone who steps out of line. Whether that's his own philosophy or he got it from Taggart, I've no idea but that's the way he works - the senior players set the right example.

Let me double check, but I think Bellamy scored 5 goals in 7 games and was therefore responsible for getting 6 points that dragged us away from the relegation zone at a time when we were struggling.

We shouldn't be spending £12 million or whatever on such short term fixes. Bellamy was a poor signing and we would have beaten Newcastle and boro without him, in fact I think we would have beaten them much mroe comfortably with a front man who could hold the ball up

Poor signing and Hughes ahs to take the flak for it. The pressure got to him and bellamy is a huge waste of money who will be of little use to us long term and we'll probably have to pay half his wages when we flog him for a fraction of the price we paid for him in the not too distant future

I think Bellamy was a good buy.
OK he is injured now and has missed vital matches, but we miss his pace.
In fact, had he played more games, he could have been our best investment this season!!

Embarassing in the sense that we shouldn't need players to sort the dressing room out, it's ultimately the managers job as it's the only way for him to gain respect not getting someone else in to do his dirty work. Especially when it's a player of Bellamy's stature and history. The kind of strategy you refer to only works when the senior players have been with the club for at least a couple of seasons and they know what's what.

of course, we'd never have won those games without him because we never score unless he plays do we!? NO! he wasn't RESPONSIBLE for getting us six points.

here's a fact. for our £14m (or whatever it was), he's scored three premier league goals. yes, a whopping three goals. i don't want to read any more crap like "oh yeah but, he's injured". HE'S ALWAYS FUCKING INJURED! you'll be making the same excuses when he signs rsc and michael owen.
