hughes had no chance

If Mancini was any good he wouldn't have been unemployed for 18 months.

In contract disput with Inter and not allowed to work whilst it was in the courts.

He was still getting paid by Inter until the end of Oct this year, I'm guessing not many clubs will pay more than they do(the same thing happened to Reid after he left City).

Not true hes been unable to take another position due to dispute with Inter over his sacking only sorted in October of this year. Chelsea were seriously interested in the summer apaprently but the court case stoped them speaking to him at the time.

Well documented last summer, there have been plenty of clubs interersted as you would expect.

Fair enough, didn't know that.

If he was any good he wouldn't have been sacked by Inter and replaced by Mourinho. Face it, we've settled for second best here. We needed to either stick with Hughes or replace him with one of the world's best managers.

I guess that's the chance you take when you take over a job in a company that's got a change in ownership in the offing. It happens week in week out that a new owner wants to bring his own people in. As for not getting a chance, on that point I will have to disagree with you Bill, since taking over the club there have been many points when they could have canned his ass(West Brom, Notts For, Fulham(last season), the end of last season), yet they didn't.

Indeed, more than that they backed him, like no other manager has been backed before and as the statement from the club reads you spend the kind of money they have a return of 2 wins in 11 is pretty poor. What killed Hughes was the fact that he was never able to get a handle on our away form(the thing that might have cost Sven his job too), but 4 wins in 28 league games away from home tells its own story. That issue ment that progress was never able to be maintained and the momentum that would have occurred obtained. Couple that with the fact that we have drawn games against some of the leagues worst travelers at home, and it's clear that time was running out for him.

On the field, can anyone say that they feel the club is moving forward, when it comes to performances? For whatever reason, a team that looked solid early on has now shipped 9 goals in 3 games(Sunderland had only scored 5 goals away from home this season). Going forward, we seem very hit and miss, indeed yesterdays game was, for me Hughes's career at City in one game at times totally unplayable but sadly for long periods dreadful at the back against a very ordinary foe.

Yes Mark Hughes got us to the SF of the CC-Cup, and I'm not going to diminish that. However, he was helped in large part by a very favourable draw. Still you can only beat what's in front of you and for much too long, that's been City's issue, we haven't been able to. So if we do win the cup this year, it will be in large part, down to Hughes and the work he has done in his time here.

So that leaves us with this, was this move handled well? No not really, but it beats those days in the past under Swales when we would fire people without any clue who we would get to replacement. As it has been said by those that wanted Hughes to be given more time the ownership sees much more than us and clearly the point came when they thought enough was enough and in my book when you spend that kind of money and back the manager to the tune of 200m, they have every right and will get my full backing.

I'm sorry Bill that you feel ashamed to be a blue right now, I hope and trust that it will pass(although the Reid/Horton thing still leaves a bad taste in my mouth even after all this time), because whatever else the last 18 months has split the club like nothing I have ever seen, and we are all blues. I for one hope the legacy of Hughes at the club will be one of helping bring the 1st trophy to the club for over 30 years, not keeping the club split the way it has.

excellent post fella, sums it up for me.

As an outer, i tend to agree with you mate tbh. I cant help but feel that Mourinho or Hiddink were the real targets. The rumours are already flying that he is only here short term until one of the above might be ready and if that is the case, we should have just stuck with Hughes.

Again, only time will tell and for me, he will be judged just like Hughes, if the reults are not there, he too will be gone of that i have no doubt.

Well Morinho is one of the best managers in the world, Inter wanted him to win the Champions league somthing Mancini couldnt manage - it was a very controversial decision at the time due to Mancinis success and popularity.

Also hes Morinhos not doing very well he has not done any better than Mancini at Inter- with more resources and is heading for the exit in the summer so not a very good argument.

Let me ask you something though would you be happy with 7 trophies in 8 seasons ?

Thats what Mancini acheived in italy over 8 years as a manager not exactly the easiest league in europe is it ?

3 Seria A titles in 4 seasons, Inter hadnt won it for years when he went there. People show their complete lack of football knowledge on this site IMO its very difficult to take most of what is posted seriously.

Would I have prefered Hidink or Morinho ? Yes obviously but its clear Hidink does not want to return to club management. He turned Chelsea down last season and in the summer. He turned us down last week. We have to assume Morinho was sounded out as out as well - our owners clearly want the best.

Liverpool, scum and Real jobs all likely to be available next summer he obviously wasnt interested. We went for the next best option available no shame in that and make no mistake on paper he is an excellent appointment.

Only time will tell lets get behind him and see what he can do.

Like I said, only time will tell lets get behind him and see what he can do. Make no mistake this guy is a winner, hes young and hungry and has a point to prove. Hes amazingly well thought of in italy - its not like they turn out shit managers is it ?

ALso lets face it Italian managers have an EXCELLENT track record in the prem with no experience of our league or type of football. Peopl say its risky a new manager in a situation like this is always a risk, I feel the owners have got the best possible manager that is available the only better candidates were few and clearly unwwilling to come to city certainly not immediately or even in the summer.
