hughes the casualty

see, now, that's how you do it. i can't argue with much of that, except to say, that whilst the season is ongoing , MH still has a chance of saving his job.

Whatever.

The perspective Mr Kowalski puts is not too far apart from my own. The spin I put on it is my opinion. Mr Kowalski did it from a non invasive position.

The day ADUG took over they had two immediate options with the managers position. Sack him and cop the flak for 'sacking the best young potential manager in Britain' not to mention having to recruit a manager to replace him or back him 100% for the rest of the season and judge teh situation in the calm of summer. ADUG were pragmatic enough to see backing hughes was a no brainer after all relegation for a squad that finished 9th was unlikely especially if you add (so far) 100 mill of talent to it.

ADUG are also pragmatic enough to know that if they do land any additional superstars either now (looking unlikely despite best efforts so far) or the summer they will have to accept that these players will want CL football and success fast - something they also want and no I don't buy the notion that ADUG will be patient and take little steps and grow it slowly. The pursuit of Kaka showed their true intent as did the guy initially who shouted from the rooftops that they were going to take over the world. A deliberate ploy (again imo) to shake things up which along with the Robinho signing worked. ADUG may have quietened it down but the intent is there and its real.

Accepting all this and that CL football is a must next year (again I think the 2 years is just smoke and is just a 'bare minimum' senario) ADUG need a manager who will all but guarantee this will happen and show the superstars we do mean business. Hughes is no where near able to gurantee the owners CL football in two years let alone one year. He does not have the CV, the experience or (imo) the ability or temperament to take a team into the top 4 within the timeframe.

I can accept that Hughes is trying to change the culture however imposing rules on diet or improving physical fitness makes for me a good dietician or fitness coach. The man management skills and leadership qualities plus the ability to inspire the players and staff indeed the club as a whole are simply not there and never will be. Neither is the tactical acumen and there is no way any of the top 4 clubs will take us seriously as a threat until we are serious about the manager.

This is not about 'anti' or 'pro' Hughes. ADUG are not anti or pro Hughes. They just want the best man in the job just as they want the best players. Hughes chances of being that man were slim to begin with but they are way beyond zero now irrespective of what happens for the rest of the season.
Good post bob and I agree with virtually everything you say.

I think they were thinking of sacking him weeks ago to be honest, but lack of available qualified candidates has given him a stay of execution to May.

I hope he gets it right for the sake of City, but you have to admit we seem to be going from one crisis to another and the club seems to lack leadership, MH interpersonal skills seem to be a problem with our cosmopolitan stars although just lately we have seen a bit of improvement lets hope it continues.

I still think he will be lucky to see the season out, if we hit another bad run it is so tight at the bottom this season that 2 or 3 defeats on the bounce could leave you adrift, he really is under pressure to produce

If we're going to be signing mediocre shite like Bellamy and having no ambition to signing top-quality players then maybe Hughes IS the right man to get the best out of an average mid-table squad?

If we're going to be signing players in the same calibre as Kaka with a multi-cultural melting pot of a squad then Hughes isn't the right man for that job. He has no experience with that and will be massively out of his depth.

Spot on.

If it means the riddance of Hughes, I'm happy. You backed Hughes and the problem is that's a short term view. Long term, the man doesn't have the skills of man management.

You're chopping and changing your opinion a fair bit, lately. Is this you retracting your laying the blame at Elano's door now, as well, Bill???

What an utter load of shit....fucking garbage...."Long term, the man doesn't have the skills of man management."

Forgive me if I take the word of some of the first team squad rather than a little man with little man syndrome...

Fucking Elano, Jo, Robinho...players should tow the line or get the fuck out.

Bill, there's no way on earth that Hughes is swinging for either the Kaka deal or Robbie going missing...it's clear to anyone with even a quarter of a brain that the owners have faith in what Hughes is doing...in fact, I do as well...

Anyway, FWIW, I think Robbie will be back for the Newcastle game...
