People need to get over the Hughes era at City, he played his part with De Jong, Kompany, Lescott, Barry, Zaba, Tevez etc, was he good enough? no but he did his best when he was out of his depth, people need to remember he was employed to do a"Stoke City " job with us until the takeover happened, like look of Autonovic, getting a tune out of Odemwingie, Ireland looking good again, watched them maul Villa 4-1 and they played some great football, good luck to him I say.
Agreed; they won't though. Hughes is seen by many on here as the ultimate antichrist and as the worst manager we've ever had. I can think of several off the top of my head who were infinitely worse than him. Benson, Frizzell, Clark and Ball to name but 4. Yet they seem to escape the amount of criticism that Hughes gets on here. Odd, but there you go.

Benson, Frizzell et al didn't have the same recourses available to them as Leslie.

And that's another irony (and you're not the only guilty party here Stony). Whenever fans of other clubs, or journalists, mention the amount of money we've spent, we tend as a group to go ballistic at that. Yet we use exactly the same logic to beat one of our former managers with. Odd.

Was he supposed to turn money down, not his fault he was given the role of chequebook manager when he was already employed at a wheeler dealer man 2 months previous.

I don't have any real problem with Hughes except he paid too highly for Crocky, and he took an age to get over being sacked here. He seems very hurt still by his sacking her, hence his apparent unwillingness to give us much credit. I don't think it because of his united connection that he is so bitter. I get the impression he really wanted to make it here and was surprised he didn't get longer. Time had moved on from the club he joined, as other have pointed out. Rate him or not, Zaba, Komps, De Jong, Lescott (albeit overpriced) , Tevez were signed under him. He was out of his depth as a manager here with those players, and for where we wanted to be under sheikh Mansour. He might have got 4th within a couple of years, but tactically Mancini and Pellers are streets ahead.

No it isn't, but it is his fault that after spending a fortune, we were still shit.

Why are people so sure Hughes personally scouted Zaba and Kompany? If Hughes is this amazing manager who could spot rough diamonds then why hasn't he done that at any of his other clubs? In fact he nearly ruined those 2 players nearly forcing them out of the club by his piss poor management of them, He is not the worst manager we ever had but he was still shocking. He spent £270 million of our owners money and got us nowhere and burdened us with some very average players on stupid wages. I know some of them were necessary stepping stone players but a lot were not. He's done a good job at Stoke which is his level but I will never see his reign here as anything other than a huge mess which set us back years.

Why do united supporters now support city?

Do you honestly think Hughes wanted the likes of Jo, Robinho, Ade etc? See who he picked for his last game, it tells the story. Let Hughes buy the players and FFP may have been delayed..

It actually amazes me now seeing all these spineless, gutless and nasty posts about our former Manager. When we got rid of him the Forum was literally split 50/50.

Ever since, 99% see him as a tosser, very sad.

All through 2008 and 2009 the talk on the Forum was of "going to the next level".

Yes, he had lots and lots of money but he did actually take us to that level and he left Mr Mancini a hell of a lot to work with.

He did take us to the next level, unfortunately after his first year in charge and spending a fortune, that level was one place below the manager he replaced.

Not exactly sure what he did to deserve the level of affection his fanboys hold him in.

Try playing in Europe with no squad. He wasn't in charge of the spending.
